I admire anyone with principles...
people who haven't been down for yonks because they don't like Pulisball ...
isn't it a tad two faced if they start attending next season in the Prem ?

Maybe we need an enclosure for the holy ones. So they don't have to mix with us non regulars. They could get complemntary ear muffs so the noise levels are still low like they obviously prefer and a self flagellation area for half time penance.
If you were going to be a glory hunter there are a few better alternatives than Stoke.

For me personally yes, that's why after only going to away matches for so long I thought it would be wrong for myself to go to the Brit against Newcastle, and that goes for the Premiership under Pulis aswell if it happens. I don't know the reason most other people decided not to go, they probably didn't hem themselves in like I did with sweeping statements, however as I have said before, it's actually worked out well for me. I still get to see Stoke, I always much preferred away games and the atmosphere that comes with them anyway and I get a good home life into the bargain.
For others, I don't see the big deal. If they want to return and watch their club how can it be bad for Stoke City? Especially the likes of Milkey who is returning after being treated well by the club, its good to see the PR and general treatment of the fans by the club improving. If that is bringing fans back then fair play to them.

Archiesdad,
I hate Pulisball with a passion and attendances seem to suggest that I'm not the only one with this view.
Many of the season ticket holders I know have admitted that the majority of games down the Brit this season have been utter crap. Good results but crap.
It's not all about league position for many people - the spectacle is just as important.
If Stoke do get promoted I will watch more games as I'd love to see Pulis' ultra-defensive style against teams with a lot more craft and guile than the shit in this division.
There would be a 'Rourke's drift' mentality which would be damn site more interesting to watch than some of the garbage served up at home this season where we 've set our stall out like an away side.
Maybe we should all learn the words to 'Men of Harlech'?

All this "ultra-defensive" bollocks doesn't really wash when you look at the fact that we're one of the highest scorers in the division and our defence is actually fairly frail.

Post by Deleted on Feb 6, 2008 16:16:16 GMT
You just have to watch it to see that it's ultra-defensive.
The fact that we only play one able forward and very rarely push numbers forward has nothing to do with the number of goals scored.
Ever heard of set-pieces?

Yep. We certainly get a lot of them in dangerous, goal-scoring positions for such an ultra-defensive side.

Yep. We certainly get a lot of them in dangerous, goal-scoring positions for such an ultra-defensive side. Mainly thanks to Rory Delap's 30 yard throw-ins.

30 yards away from goal = still near to the goal in a threatening position. Hardly camped out in our own half is it.
It's not Brazil, but it's not true either to say we set our stall out to cynically defend every time we play, because this patently is not the case.

Personally, I am no long a season ticket holder. I moved to Durham for university 3 years ago and had to give it up. When the team are doing well as they are now, there is far more of a buzz and I am much more inclined to spend my hard earned (/student loan:D) on the trip down to Stoke. When we are playing wank, I am much less inclined to spend the time and effort getting down to see us play.
Football is, at the end of the day, an entertainment and a luxury. Many people have their reasons for not attending, I'm sure a lot of those reasons include the football we have been playing. And while not everyone has the die hard, go very week, win lose or draw attitude, we shouldn't punish those who now want to spend their saturdays supporting the lads, whatever their reasons for returning.
Even if your staying way on principle, fuck em off. No-one will think less of you. the important thing now is to get behind the lads for the big push to the prem.

My own reasons have been many fold, 1st it was football, then money, then travelling to hemel every weekend to be with the wife to be, then it was living miles away and money!!!
I guess at the end of the day, they were all just good excuses, the reason really was that what little spare cash I had was better spent elsewhere as the football simply wasn;t good enough to give me that buzz anymore.
Now we are challenging again, that buzz may come back, which is why I thought I would come back once more. That's it really.

Milkies, have you sent or copied your post to the club? They must get sick of people moaning at them and then doing nothing when they get it right.
A bit of positive feedback will encourage them to do more for the supporter.
Great to read your story though.

there are also other reasons for failing attendence ........
My new wife decided she wanted to come to the stoke mnatches with me.
Doubled the cost 1/2 the enjoyment, and sulked when I didnt leave 1/2 way through the firts half to buy her a pie.

Well, Stoke had my money from 1971 and the next 20yrs. About 20 of us used to go home and away, still remember some of the old removal vans we used to hire, don't think they'd of passed a modern mot by a long way . Then along came marriage and the inevitable kids and money became alot tighter. Then a few years ago we took out some money and bought some land and turned it into stables and also trying to start a small beef herd. Now my weekends are are took up with work but radio Stoke is still tuned in every Saturday in my tractor Midweek games are sometimes attended where possible, although they've been hard to come by these past couple of years. Am i a " dickhead, gloryhunter, do I crawl out of the woodwork, a rat, exile etc " well personally I don't give a fuck!!!!!!!! I still want Stoke to win every game................................

RAF
It would be a pity if your principals kept you away? I had a season ticket from the seventies through to the mid eighties, so I saw some great times, but also some shite!
I stopped going because it used to wind me up too much, wife & kids came along to, so that was another excuse not to go!
But I always felt that I would come back when the time was right, and sure enough, my Missus bought me a ST! (Don't know what she was trying to tell me)
It sounds like it would be more difficult for you to come back, maybe because it sounds like you have backed yourself into a corner, but Fuck Em, if you want to come back, then JFDI (Just Fuckin Do It)
I always enjoyed going to away games, but no ID card, so that's something I need to get sorted
I think it's going to be a real ride over the next few years, so it would be a shame if you missed out.

Come one, come all. Call them 'glory hunters' if you want, it doesn't bother me one bit. Their money means more to spend by the club. Lot's of people have lot's of reasons not to go to games. Some didn't go because of the TP style of football, or a personal dislike of TP/PC, and that again was their choice, but that is their decision to make. For me, watching through the bad times, makes the good times sweeter. Come on, Stoke! I've attended, and not always enjoyed what I've watvhed, but that was MY choice..

Sorry Archies dad, I usually pick up on them! Gibby, cheers mate, but like I say I have found a great balance where I can do away games and still have a great quality of life with my lady even though I live down south and she lives up north. Initially my reaction had backed me into a corner but now it has worked out for the best, so I neither have to miss Stoke or break my promise. Cheers H

Raf, Well said mate. I know people who have followed the TEAM for Fucking years who have been disenchanted with some of the goings on previously within the CLUB. Everyone has an opinion and his own principles. Get back on the Train Lads.
