Villa at home for me.
It proved to the lads that they could win games and probably gave them the belief that they could bounce back from the more difficult times in the season.
Without that win, who knows how we would have reacted to our horrible away record, or 5-0 drubbing at the Shit.
West Ham away was important as well, not least because it gave Wilko his chance and Beattie's goal at Tottenham, in a game that was lost, gave him the early chance to get up and running goals wise.

for me it was liverpool away (although you lot dont seem to agree) i think it showed that we had the grit and determination to fight for every point and not just roll over when the big boys were in town. also i think that if one moment could encapsulate our season it would be when gerrard had a shot abut on the edge of the area and leon cort threw himself in the way to stop a almost certain goal. he deflected it wide and got a touch of concusion and when your players are willing to do that for you then you know that we would fight compete

Strangley enough, I recall the Sunderland home game as pivotal -i.e. a fairly innocuous midweek game we won at a canter whilst playing rather poorly. Sunderland just didnt seem to be organised or interested that night and I walked away thinking -for the first time (I could recall in the premiership) :
We've definitely arrived at this level - we've played crap -and still beat them !
