Well spotted ID. However I wish journalists wouldn't write such rubbish. How can a 12 month rolling contract expire in a months time?

Surely it does expire in one month? So the journalist is correct.. as surely the rolling part has to be agreed by both party?
So if one side didnt agree it expires in 4 weeks?

DeathoftheBronx. The inference of a 12 month rolling deal is surely that it always has 12 months to run. If either side wished to terminate it at any point then it would simply become a 12 month deal (no rolling part). Very pedantic point I know, and due to the nature of the story, completely irrelevant now.

This is great news, not that many other teams will be battling for his signature, it wasn't so lon ago that he was rumoured to be off to southampton (new takeover talk 12 months ago) not bad work for pulis and his pub team

A 12 month rolling contract means the contract always has 12 months to run, i.e. if we wish to sack Tony Pulis we must pay him 12 months wages.

Didn't he initially agree to come on a 12 month rolling contract for a three year period? I think this may be what they are saying.

Ever likely he's feeling triffic all over.
To be fair, in the context of the Premier League, he deserves every penny - as obscene as it patently is.

12 month rolling contract means they give him a 12 month contract, then at the end of the 12 months they can either give him another or get rid of him, so they are right when they say he has 1 month left of his 12 month rolling contract.

Can't disagree with that, richly deserved.
But out of interest, anyone know how much Waddo was paid in his pomp, including bonuses (and bungs if applicable)? I'm guessing even allowing for inflation it wouldn't be a quarter of what Tone's on now.

As said above a 12 month rolling contract ALWAYS has 12 months to run unless one party decides to end it or (like now) it is renegotiated. If the club want to end it they have to pay the manager 12 months severance pay. If the manager wants to end it he has to either work 12 months notice or (if he is moving to a new club) the new club has to pay the current club 12 months salary in compensation.

I believe the contract is renegotiable at the end of every season, but it is effectively always 12 months off ending.

A 12 month rolling contract actually means that every morning he has 12 months remaining. Pulis always said thats the only way he`d work after all the hassle he went through trying to get compensation from the Gillingham chairman. If we ever dismissed him he would have a legal entitlement to 12 months pay. Rolling contracts can be set for a predetermined time span. In this case it seems to be three years, after which, both parties can sit down and discuss new terms. I think Pulis and Coates have a great relationship and have built a mutual trust which might prompt Tony into signing a long term deal rather than the rolling deal.

Tony has always been keen on the 12 month rolling deal - he had one (at his suggestion) with the Icelanders as well as Coates. He certainly deserves his bonus and a new contract. Personally I think the money in the Prem is obscene but if the players get silly money then successful managers are entitled to competitive salaries. I'd have thought TP would be happy with a new rolling contract albeit on more generous terms - wonder if we'll find out what the terms are?
