The long trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday saw the under 18s win the midday shoot out at Boro's impressive training centre in Darlington.
It took all of 38 seconds for Vickers to latch on to a through ball and fire Stoke ahead. Middlesbrough came back strongly but it was on the stroke of half time before they could breach our rearguard and find the equaliser.
The young Stoke side again came out of the traps quickly after the break and re-established the lead three minutes into the second half with a spectacular overhead kick from Andy Nichols as he continued his recent run of goal scoring. As with the first half Boro had a good share of possession but Stoke continued to create the better chances in a pacy and good game of football.
No further goals were scored but an enjoyable game to watch.
On the adjacent pitch the u16s completed the double over the highly rated Teeside Academy that regular produces top talent with a very well deserved 2..0 win.

Good stuff! Who scored the overhead kick? It was Andy Nichols as per edit. ;D Dan, No mate. I'm bloody crap at it. The job is all yours mate. Good performance by all today and much more like it than last week. As far as who is closest to making the first team then you can only look at the second years. Any age below that is just too young to say. Only Wedderburn has been given a pro contract out of this years second years so logically you have to say he is the closest at this point. He was able to return to central midfield today and we looked a much better unit for it. As I said, an enjoyable day in the Nort East today.

Nicholls has ended up as second top scorer with Louis Moult. Only one behind Warwick Alexander.
