I dont feel sorry for Gudjon.
He has shown more spine at Crewe than anyone in the last 15 years and i imagine they will be in the shake up to get back up next year unlike Vale.
He wouldnt want people feeling sorry for him, I imagine he'll just get on with the job.
One thing I will say is that he always had Stokes best interests at heart, right to the end and you cant argue with that. Met him once and he was a gent.

I think of Crewe and I think of the moment I discovered the side Gudjon had named for the play-off second leg at Smallsall. Then someone asks me if I feel any sorrow! agreed. I'll always be grateful that he eventually got us promoted but also resentful that he made such hard work out of it. I do quite like the fella but i take nothing but great pleasure in seeing Crewe fall back to their rightful place. And if that makes me small minded so be it

At what point did Crewe become rivals? For yonks it was friendly and nice between us.

I did want him to succeed at Crewe, by which I mean keep them up. I still like to see him do well, I don't bear him any animosity. Kind of like how I like seeing Iwelumo doing well, I suppose. I don't feel anything towards Crewe, mild dislike when they played against us but that whole rivalry thing was drummed up by them because they don't have a local team to compete against.

Gudjon didnt divide the club after he went, it was divided whilst he was in the job. Thats why he lost his job. He wasnt a yes man and had his own ideas that the board wouldnt back, very much like super Tone when he worked with the Icelandics. Lou also felt strongly enough to take legal action.

Hypothetical question - what reaction would Gudjon get at The Brit if he turned up against Wigan, came on the pitch etc?

Hypothetical question - what reaction would Gudjon get at The Brit if he turned up against Wigan, came on the pitch etc? He'd get a good reception from me. I don't like Crewe, and I think it's hilarious that they are going down after all, but I always liked Gudjon. It was the best of times and worst of times during his reign, and at times he was more negative and stubborn than Pulis ever was, but he did get us promoted and give us some good times.

Gutted for him, he was so close to pulling off a miraculous job, can't see it now though.

I agree with all that - I feel sad for him but sorry would be patronising, he took on an impossible job at a demoralised club in the shadow of an ageing megalomaniac, and like swampy says showed real spine, just didn't get lucky at the end. If he sticks around next season they'll do fine and he can start to put his stamp on the place.

No sympathy from me. I'd say he was generally a poor manager for us who had lots of resources but stumbled and stuttered. Eventually we got where we wanted to be BUT it took too long given what he had at his disposal. His undignified reaction to his sacking saw him embarassing himself.
The decision not to renew his contract was absolutely the correct thing to do.

I wonder if he'll take the vale job next season? A lot of vale fans are saying what a good job he's done at crwho and would like to see him there.
I'd have sympathy for him if he did end up managing them ;D

I don't feel sorry for him he made a massive lack off judgement taking the job at CrWho? in the 1st place.
I liked the guy when he was at Stoke and yes he did get us promoted but some of the weird transfers he made baffled me, Petur Martinsson for one, the guy was quality but he hardly played him, then there was that keeper he signed who was reportedly on top wages at the club but never made a first team appearance (what was his name?).
And as others have said the team he picked at Walsall in that play-off semi was criminal.
so no I don't feel sorry for him.
On the otherhand its nice to see CrWho? back at the level they should never have strayed from, some of the shite I've heard them spout in the past about what a fantastic footballing establishment they are and how they hate us clayheads really pissed me off, the twats had forgotten how many Stokies used to go to CrWho? when they used to play on a friday night when Waddo was in charge and if the Stokies hadn't been there the place would have been as good as empty.
Anyway most of the fuckers over there are either gloryhunting Manc/Pool fans so I can't se there being much mourning at their passing, most of them won't even realise its happened
