Yes, he is better than what we have had before but he was poor yesterday. His first touch wasn't very good and he has no idea of how to score a goal. I also think he comes inside too often. Any thoughts? ??? ??? ???

He was poor yesterday, but in general I think he's added a huge amount to the team. He provides an outlet when we're under pressure, he injects some much needed pace, and his delivery at it's best is excellent. A key player.

the reason he had a poor game yesterday is because he was being man marked by two people all game every time he got a touch they had two men around him making it very difficult for him to do anything

I think on a good day he has enough quality to deal with that, but that is another reason yes

he had a bad game ??? think thats harsh we came close with header and sliding to a fuller cross. did beat his man a few times maybe a ave game for him but not a bad one and in respose to should we let him go

To be fair i thought both wide men had bad games, I know Lawrence scored but he was still poor and i suppose you could also say Beattie wasnt at his best, Saying that if we can have three of our most influential players having an off day and still win things cant be too bad.

Nothing really went for him yesterday and he was fairly poor, but even then he is still a geat outlet for us and a threat. Quality player who will get better for us.

I agree RDWA - Sam did his homework, doubled up Ethers, and was confident that they could withstand our bombardment - and he almost pulled it off. They tried to outstoke Stoke and took it to the next extreme by using Robinson to take virtually all their freekicks - he was their best midfielder. However the match is reviewed it would put Blackburn in a worse light than us. Nil shots on target. Good effort by their fans, but needed to bring a few in off the bench after the goal to keep it up for the full 90. They wasted a lot of energy for the half hour before kick off competing with the PA

No matter how much of a negative slant people put on yesterdays game we won and the 3pts are ours. Blackburn came for a point and had done their homework, they were quite happy to put the ball into row z for throw-ins and were a match for anything we threw at them, even with the return of three "rested" players from the liverpool game we bettered them in most departments and as the poster stated earlier Ethers had two markers for most of the game.

He is quality but seems to lack a little confidence in front of goal. He also seems a bit reserved off the pitch. TP will work on this and I am sure we will see him at his best very soon.

Ethers is ace, just like Liam. Leave em alone!
They are all playing a great part in our recent form, and a few mistakes are inevitable. Even Abdy nearly made one yesterday ;D

I think he has been great - and he gets chances too which is not always something that our midfield has done for all their other qualities

How i see it is:
He came to us and he was not fit BUT we saw his quality in bursts. Because he was not fit he was not getting into goal scoring opportunities BUT was playing well for 75% of the game (fitness) Now he is fitter he is getting goal scoring chances which is fantastic BUT lacks a bit of confidence in front of goal BUT at least now he is getting in the right areas (Fitter).
What comes next ? Fitness has improved 100% and now he needs a bit more confidence to finish and voila WHAT A PLAYER WE KNEW WE HAD GOT !
Pure class from TP !!

Any thoughts? ??? ??? ??? No need to add much to that, but I thought he looked a little frightened of the big Ooijer yesterday. Also, Higgy doesn't help him by always playing it behind him.

Don't necessarily think it was Ether's who had a bad game yesterday, you've got too give credit to Blackburn's defence.
For teams in and round the bottom at this time of year, defending well is always gonna be the priority, especially away from home.
Ether's will bounce back, especially against West Ham!!!

I'm still to be completely convinced by Etherington.
Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted that he's here, because at least we have somebody who can play on the left flank.
However that doesn't mean I'm going to sing his praises from the roof top just because he's filling a role.
I'm not for one moment suggesting he's a bad player but IMHO he certainly hasn't consistently been performing at a level that warrants some of the praise he has been receiving.
Maybe there's more to come from him, maybe there isn't.
Only time will tell.

We won a very difficult game and in our usual way, everybody in the side should take credit. Ethers and Lenny are doing just fine.

spot on coggy lets not forget he also served a three match ban not long ago, but the chances he had yesterday he was busting a gut to get to the ball, i think he'll score 1 or 2 before the end of the season and in reply to the original question yes i rate him.

Whelan did ping that pass as i said to mar mate that whelan is true quality at the time.
But Ethers was so poor yesterday but still will be awesome for us and i think a goal might do the trick as i believe Liam getting that goal will make him more confident but Ethers just tried to knock it through the player and hope it went past him then he be on his way but time and time again it did not work.
