Anybody know who has the record for the highest first season position for the club promoted in 2nd place from the championship ?

Including old First Division? I dunno mate. I think Forest went up as 2nd Division champions and won the first division championship the following year. Watford finished quite high in their first season too.
Dont know about the PL though.

not sure if ipswich came up in 2nd place but they finished 5th.
then went down year after!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading went up and finished 8th but they went up as champions.

Derby Went up as second and did well not sure where they finished. we aint finished anywhere yet tho. Ipswich went up through the play offs

Just worked it out from the statto site. It was Forest finished 3rd in the premier 94-95. Also Wigan and Blackburn in 05-06 and 01-02 finished 10th.

Forest went up 2nd in 1993/94 and then finished 3rd behind man ure in 1994/1995!!!
Boro finished 9th
Wigan/Blackburn 10th
