I started singing in the upper tier v Birmingham in the cup a while back and was looked at as if i'd got two heads, found it a bit dull and Darby and Joanish to be honest and i'm no spring chick at 137 years young. Now the Upper Tier is a completely different cup of tea. No shouting or anything allowed up there. In the League Cup matches this season, I decided to treat myself to the life of luxury up top. When we scored in one game, perhaps Rotherham, the woman sat next to me remained sat down and continued to eat her pie with the provided plastic fork. Now I admit that in the Lower Tier we're not the most vocal (although behind the dugout we do a decent service with managers and substitutes) but I really, really stood out up there. Lower tier John Smith's is owrate. Rubbish. I sit in block 8 and I have no fucking voice tonight. Absolute shit that is what you and a lot of others have posted.

Where I was, the people were mostly static and disinterested. Maybe it's different in a league game. We need a bit of Chlamydia Stand solidarity.

Bloody hell, all you west standers are proper touchy when it comes to banter about the lack of atmosphere in your luxurious stand, if you showed half as much enthusiasm on match days maybe we would'nt be having this conversation !

Because I'm not an ST owner I often have to sit on the south of the west stand by the away fans and I have to admit I am usually surrounded by old people, and by old I mean people in their 70's+ and you're obviously not going to get alot of screaming or jumping up and down out of them. It then makes people like myself who go a bit mental to look like right tools though as last game I went to (Newcastle) everyone just stared at me and my mate when we started calling shearer a wanker and proper screaming. It does ruin the atmosphere a bit. But still though, half of em sing and add that to the half of the South stand home crowd and the other two stands that sing thats still 3 singing Stands, which is 2 more then most stadiums!

I do sing and asked T. Hibbert (PL assessor today) in front of me to feel free to put his fingers in his ears. He smiled but didn't , brave man. Prawn sarnies?! Mine today, put together 180 miles away, were cheese and tomato, with water to swill them down. Good enough for me. The real luxury is our lads being in the Premier League.

Not knocking the fact that the rest of you cant sing a song in time, just a shame that you cant I'll ticket swap with you and i'll get you old fossil prawn sarnie eating silent bobs singing in no time ;D Prawn sarnie? Why would the West Stand have any more GH's than any other part ??? I sit in block 17 and nearly everyones sings, the same as block 18. Block 10 and 11 are also good but it just tends to be the upper tier who are quiet. The thing is though, so what? The atmospheres brilliant and some Stokies are getting into 60/70 etc. who i'm sure don't really have the energy to start bouncing up and down singing "nananananana". Block 19 can make noise yes, but they can't speak English which tends to be a downfall.

mate of mine and her fella are thinking of upgrading to the JSU !!!!!!!! , I really can't see the point myself, but she's never been much of a singer at games, and apparently you get your pasty on a plate up there !!!!!

i was on row one of 18 today and I won't be going there again. Not really 'cos of the fans - more the moody steward who told me to 'shut the fu*k up' because I was 'doing her head in' by singing all the time and making noise. A classy bird, obviously. Thus, eyeing my opportunity, I asked her if she wanted to go for a beer after the match ended. At that she stood up and walked off in a huff!
If you don't want to sing that's up to you - there were lots of people in there with various bits and pieces (ie teamsheets) which makes me think that's where a lot of the freebie seats are. Personally though I'd rather be about halfway in the Seddon, where the atmosphere looked amazing today (as usual).

SWEAT TASH We might need song sheets but we do not need maps. Most of us in the top tier have been to every away game and know what atmosphere is. If you are talking song sheets then maybe you could hand out the timing to the boothen end. When you do sing a song remember it is a song and not a race. The first to finish does not win the gold medal even Linford Christie was not that quick.

I thought the JS being shit for atmosphere was a fact! always has been, always will be. The other stands are where the loud, passionate stokies go to support their team; the JS is where people with lots of money go to enjoy a game of football.

I sit in block 12 and pretty much only stopped singing briefly when Cresswell came on.
There are quite a lot of quiet people in the lower West stand, but we also have quite a sizable number of singers/shouters, however these are dotted throughout the West Stand, so the noise isn't as concentrated as the south stand or boothen

i was on row 25 block 18 today and 75% of people were singing there so i dont get where this thread is going?I was in js for man city bolton and many more, on all occasions came out minus my voice so this is just bs. when all said and done we get 27 000 every game, yeh some may not sing but it is a minority, but they are still supporting the club. they still pay there money and spend at the ground etc.

REV1001 the old chestnut "I've been to every away game so ner" raises its head again , the thread was started as a joke but all you west standers are really over sensitive maybe because I sitter in 1 of the better stands for atmosphere but paid £100 odd quid less for my ST does'nt make me in the ELITE band of Stoke fans, but then again that wont matter to you because the more away games you go and the more you pay for a ST the more a supporter you are right !? Oh and you can stick your maps where the sun dont shine its sat nav all the way for me tut tut tut a west stander still using maps

I'm in block 17 and wouldn't swap for anywhere else. Mainly cause I dunner like the sun in me eyes. My throat hurts this morning from 90 mins of singing and shouting as will many others I imagine.
The difference is there are quite a few oldies in the js so most of us have a good sing but have the respect of not standing up and obstructing the views of those who can't!
We will all get old and eventually will just want to sit and enjoy the game. I have huge respect for those who still make the effort to come rather than fester in their armchairs. That's why a stand like the west exists.

Garfield!!!! "Some Stokies are getting into their 60/70s and I'm sure don't really have the energy to start jumping up and down" .......... Don't you believe it. Leaving my walking stick at home, I drive to Euston, walk from Stoke station, upon arrival, thence up that damned bank, followed by 67 steps of the JSU, before yelling my head off. Must close now. Am off to London for a FSF supporters' divisional meeting, then, tomorrow, on the 7.30. am train to Tyneside, for a conference sub committee, up there. Next week-week-end, after our Fulham celebrations, it's off to London for a meeting, followed by the PFA Awards Dinner and a funeral in Southend, the following morning. Not trying to blow my own trumpet, - lucky to be healthy and enthusiastic - but just wanting you to know that we're not all ready for the morgue, in our seventies. And certainly not those youngsters in their sixties, who are probably out walking/jogging, as I type, while the nation's youth are probably lounging in bed.

As a birthday treat my wife organised an afternoon in the Waddingtons Suite instead of my usual season ticket seat (opposite side of the ground!)
The Waddingtons Suite was enjoyable enough (bit too highbrow for me!)
There was a guy in there who was also on a birthday treat that sits two rows in front of me so I was talking to him a lot.
Cue the match and myself and the guy who usually sits in front of me were singing our hearts out like we usually do - everyone and I mean everyone was looking at us and tutting in a manner that can only be described as "look at those uncouth ruffians there". It didnt make it any better when the wanker chant at Diouf started up!
If you are going to go to a footie match to watch a team you follow then you support them as much as you can (hence the term supporter). If you are going to have a posh meal and sit there on your hands then go to a resteraunt

How can you look over and see if anybody is singing? Not many stand up to sing but a few do in fact open their mouths. I join in all the time but the songs tend to die off first in the west stand. Could really do with a few coming over and getting based in one block over here to create an atmosphere as its more difficult to join in when theres so few around you singing at times. It has been a lot better this season though.

young uns in block 19 dont need song books...
they have got the words to each every song tattooed on the backs of their necks so that the person standing/sitting behind them can read along and sing along together...
bless them .....
