Been watching the Bank Holiday results show on Sky all afternoon, and have to say that Paul Jewell doesn't half talk some sense when you compare his comments with those of messrs Walsh and Cottee.
Whilst both could be described as Premiership snobs, Paul Jewell has spoken a lot of sense all day long and has praised the mighty potters in the process.
Whilst Cottee and Jewell claim that all 3 promoted teams would get relegated, Jewell has pointed out that there is not a great deal of difference between teams at the bottom of the Premier League and the top of the Championship. He has said that it isn't easy, but has also said that the gap isn't insurmountable as the likes of Walsh and Cottee were portraying.
The over-riding thing from this season for me is that the Premier League is massively overhyped and over-rated. There really isn't a great deal to fear, and with the right signings, it is perfectly feasible that the likes of Stoke, Wolves, Birmingham and whoever else could compete admirably against the Wigan's, Boro's, Newcastle's and Sunderlands of this world.

Are you saying both Cottee and Jewell still think that Stoke will go down, or were they talking generally, as in - bottom 3 of the Premier and top 3 of the Championship?

It was just general but when Walsh claimed that Wolves would go straight back down, Jewell put him straight, and used Stoke as the example.
All day, Walsh and Cottee have slated the top 3 teams in the Championship, but Jewell has constantly put them right. Points not performances at this stage of the season being his main point which messrs Cottee, Merson and particularly Walsh, seemed to forget.
Very interesting it was too!

Thought the best comment was when Ian Payne said Lewes were on course at the time to win their 3rd game on the trot since getting relegated after losing an amazing 18 games on the trot to which Jewell replied "18 games thats nothing"

Can't see how this is praising us, it is actually denigrating what we have achieved this season. It has taken a super-human effort to keep out of the relegation places and as it stands Hull look like they will join West Brom in going down so there is a strong likelihood that the same will happen again next year with at least two going back down.
