I know he isnt good enough but booing and shouting abuse at your own players is criminal. Why were people doing this yesterday, it isnt helpful

Agreed, even if they could argue they were booing the decision to bring him on rather than Cressy himself, it doesn't come across and does nothing for the team nor our stellar reputation as top fans!
Never understood booing your own players!

I must be going deaf. I didn't hear anyone booing Cresswell and I'm pretty sure if anyone did, they wouldn't have been booing him, they would have been directing their anger at Pulis for bringing him on. I wasn't too pleased, but once he was on, I was urging him to do well. Unfortunately, he did what I thought he would do...nowt because he's out of his depth in this league.

I think everyone has just come to accept that cresswell isnt good enough in the premiership and pulis has saw the light and will probably get rid of him in the summer..... to boo him is not being a true supporter, what kind of confidence will he get from that to do something well when called upon? terrible

hear no boos from in or around block 23 tbh.
I would have brought Tonge on who can at least keep possession. I really hate all the anti-Cress stuff as this time last year he was a hero.
Not his fault that he's been shown up this season in a better standard, and if I met him in a pub this summer I'd shake his hand, thank him and let him buy me a night's worth of beers!

Bunny, I disagree about Tonge. He offers the same as Cresswell - nothing.
Congratulations on your excellent e-mail to Holden. I wonder if you will receive any sort of reply.

Paul, if TP wished to keep the same formation (and I think he did) then his options were severely limited.
Cresswell has put in performances against ManU & Chelsea, but yesterday he was at his poorest.
I can't see any option to Cresswell without playing more square pegs in round holes or changing the shape of the team with 5 in midfield.
It is a worrying development as we are totally dependent on Fuller and BT playing the 90 mins of the final 6 matches.
Yesterday, my heart dropped as I saw Cressers ready to come on as I knew we would have to hang on to a 1-0 if we were going to win. He gave nothing going forwards, missed his tackles and kept on losing the ball. Your arguements about 5 in midfield are very persuasive after the event, but if we had changed shape it could have invited even more pressure on us and we might even have lost!
It is for these sorts of decisions TP is paid a lot of money. Had I been in his shoes (unlikely I know) I would have done exactly the same thing.

Next time, if I was TP I would throw my cap and water bottle down the touch line if BT or Fuller had to come off.
Alternatively, I would try Oli in the middle in a slightly more withdrawn Mama role and encourage him to get forward. Alternatively he could slot in alongside Whelan and Rory push forwards. Finally he could play on the right (or Rory) and let Lenny play behind the central striker.
Of these 3, I would go for the first and then get lots of stick for handing the initiative to the opposition.

But just to clarify ... beyond the most ridiculous set of circumstances, you wouldn't still continue with Cresswell as an option?

No, Paul. I think its time to give him a little rest ;D Incidentally, how would you have handled the situation yesterday? March I've said several times over the last 24 hours that I would have gone 4-5-1. Not with hindsight but AT THE TIME I turned to my son and said we really need to try and nullify Gutierrez ... their midfield is moving into the ascendancy. Beattie is shot, let's get him off, leave Ric as the lone striker and get an extra man in midfield. You know me ... I HATE defending a one goal lead, but in my humble opinion, with the substitutions that we had available, this was the only REALISTIC option available to us. In the end we brought on Cresswell which meant that we didn't give ourselves any support in midfield OR provide ourselves with any impetus offensively.
