4pm update from sentinel
Mama Sidibe is still in the running for a starting place against Cardiff tomorrow - despite missing training this morning.Sidibe was due back at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon after being delayed en route back from the African Cup of Nations.
Manager Tony Pulis had hoped to field him in training after introducing newcomers Glenn Whelan and Paul Gallagher to their new team-mates for the first time.
But he reported: "Mama didn't make it back in time for training, which was a big disappointment.
"I'll have a word with him as soon as he does get here to see what state he's in mentally and physically. Then we'll take it from there with regard to tomorrow's game."
Sidibe made just two second-half sub appearances as Mali failed to qualify from the so-called group of certain death also accommodating Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Benin.
Pulis has various options in midfield and attack as the three available slots in central midfield, on the left flank and up front are now being contested by Danny Pugh, Salif Diao, Glenn Whelan, Richard Cresswell, Paul Gallagher and Sidibe.
Supporters are reminded the game kicks off at 12.30pm on police insistence

- Fuller apart none of the strikers have really cut it this season, including Cresswell. When Cressie has played upfront he hasnt contributed to the game for me & doesnt look a threat.
He does know where the net is though so of the lot he deserves to play but I wouldnt be surprised if that doesnt really pull up trees.
I think both Mama & Parkin will play their part before the season is out.

Does nobody else think that Fuller/Cresswell will not become a good partner ship, I think that sidibe up front with either of them is the ebst as he gets the ball to them.
Or am i blind?

If he plays him after him being delayed and knackerd plus he's crap then this is what angers thousands because his argument on the Hoefkens snub that his 'Kiddies' were keeping him up and he wasn't playing to his max!
Well sidibe has not prepared at all for this game and his goal scoring efforts are not worthy for vale ffs!
Well its one rule for one and one rule for another with our 'clever manager'!!! Deep down he is a prick!

Good, Cresswell and Fuller were shit together on Tuesday and just can't play with each other because of our direct approach. Come on Mama, get one goal and they'll be flying in for him just like last Christmas.

Pugh is not a left-back ffs! Dicko is and has to be first choice.
If he has to be a sub then great its about having a better squad/bench and the tripe like before in Sweeney to bring on?

dicko or pugh both worthy of there places dicko has suffered a few knock backs this season but pugh can cover 3 places on the field from the bench so its quiet possible thats where he'll be

I'm probably in a minority here, but the way that we play, having one striker who can hold the ball up and keep possession is absolutely crucial...therefore I'd have to put Sidibe back into the team.
Because the midfield tend to sit deep, having Sidders hang onto the ball enables the wide men to get up in support, and he's also good at playing Fuller in by winning headers etc. Cresswell is more of a penalty box player, but our game just doesn't tend to suit that type of striker.
The missing piece of the jigsaw really is a "goalscoring sidibe type" but there aren't really many of them about are they?

I think it's imperative that we play Sidibe. We play a rigid 4-4-1-1 and of our squad, only Sidibe is adept at playing the '1'. When Sidibe doesn't play, the ball pings straight back at us. In other words, I'm with Trouserdog.

Not sure where TP mentions in the quotes he's in the running for a starting place-
Why is there always a group of death? I mean Benin and Mali?????

100 percent agree
I don't mind if we continue with this style of play , its very effective and with the new signiings we can change things round a bit

I think we've really missed Mama in away games - Tuesday and the Newcastle replay being classic cases in point. I'm not quite so sure about home games. Personally, I don't care whether he scores or not, so long as the team does well and somebody is scoring. We've got one of the best goals for totals in the league with Mama playing most of the games.
The good thing now is that TP has real options, both of personnel and style of play, both for starting 11 and for cahnges during the game. My only worry is that as a manager he tends to be a rigid in his thinking so will he make the best use of what he's now got. But the bottom line is 4th in the league, 4 points off top, even without these new players and it's difficult to argue with that.

Very good point Malcolm. Also one thing many of the 'budding' football managers seem to have forgotton on here is that Cardiff recently shipped 3 goals again West Brazilmich which were all described as 'hopeful punts into the box'. So lets think if we have Sidibe playing and Cardiff seem to have a aversion to high balls in there box (phnar phnar) what do we think the outcome will be??!?
You've got to target teams weaknesses regardless of the style of play required and choose the right personnel to do that tactic.
