Two young promising centre halves, both of a similar age, both coming through the ranks at Manchester united at the same time.
Fergie Decides Ryan is surplus to requirements and releases him on loan then, sells him to stoke city.
I wonder if he sold the wrong player ?
I watch closely with interest
I think its possible he did too !

Didn't he also let Evans go out on loan (Sunderland?)
He also wanted Ryan to stay and offered him a new contract but Ryan asked to leave for first team football. Fergy said at the time that he respected Ryan's wishes but was 'suprised'. He also 'cheekily' added that he could always buy him back!

Must admit i find this a question i asked myself the other night whilst watching United, the only answer i came up with was "Thank you red nose for selling us the best english centre half since Denis Smith"

If Ryan Shawcross had opted to play for Wales instead of England then i believe he would've had as many full international caps as Evans.
I'd say both are fairly equal at the moment and Evans apparently had a similar impact at Sunderland that Shawcross has had here. Obviously Shawcross has the benefit of regular games, but Evans has found himself playing more games than he probably expected at the start of the season due to Rio's injuries, Vidic's suspensions and United's cup successes.
Evans will be a top quality player, maybe not United level, but somewhere like Everton or Villa and unfortunately, I can see the same with Ryan in a few years

Shawcross is amazing but you've got to be realistic. Evans is a lot better, that's why he's becoming a regular for Manchester United and Ryan's here. Sorry

Shawcross and Evans at the heart of Stokes defence within the next three years would be something to see.

JB, he is becoming a regular because Rio is injured and vidic is banned. Shawcross is one of the most under-rated players in the league.

JB: Not altogether sure that's true mate. Ryan moved to us, although Fergy was reluctant to let him go. If he'd stayed at United, who knows. As has been said Evans has played because of injuries and suspensions. Had Ryan been there to get the same opportunity?????

Evans has probably cost United the in the CL with sloppy defending.
Saying that he is a very technically gifted young player.
But my gut feeling is that Ryan will go to great things. He more than anyone else is the player we will be pushed to hang on to in the future. Arsenal if anyone will try to sign him.

I'm sorry but no, I think some day he'll be good enough to play for England but at the minute he's not as good as Evans. I know what you're saying but I think you're just seeing it through red and white tinted glasses as I normally do

No I don't look at anything with bias JB, I'm always objective by nature.
Look how assured Ryan has been for us (against the same opposition). Imagine him in a much better defense which (all hatred apart) none of us could argue with. I think he would be outstanding. He looks very good in a pretty poor defense!
