I know mate. I've heard many times now that there is gonna be trouble and saw nothing so you just have to take it with a pinch of salt don't you. I can understand a father's concern though. Take him down mate. I know i'll be taking my little un when he's old enough (providing i can get another ticket). On the subject of that, what does everyone think a decent age to take him is?

Dont forget a group of Stoke hooligans were arrested at the away fixture (they went to the wrong street, stupid bastards...) & Newcastle fans have a history of violence in thsi fixture.
Also there is only 1 way a section of their deluded support will re-act to losing on Saturday isnt there.
not saying there is going to be mayhem but I would expect one or two isolated incidents away from the ground at the very least courtesy of 'the best fans in the world'.
I was thinking of taking my 5 year old to his second game but wont now,in part due to the late kick off but also in part due to - imho - an increased risk of trouble. I realise that its highly unlikely anything bad could happen to my son but I just cant risk it.
I really hope Sunderland stay up too as that would piss off the Geordies even more.

Is there still a contingent of exiled Geordie miners in the area? That used to be an old favourite when rumours of trouble surfaced against Newcastle.

Jesus wept!
There is no more chance of trouble here than when Hull, Chelsea, ManUre, Liverpool or anybody else that we may have had trouble with in the past turn up!
We donlt givbe them sufficient tickets to make any casual hooligan the opportunity to simply come on the day for a bit of a scuffle.
Boro apart, I've not seen anything this season? Even against a full Derby end?
Boro fans seemed to be falling out with the Police more than anything.
I've noticed this season that a lot of away fans are quite happy to walk away from the ground and mingle with the Stokies in their shirts - not seen that for a lot of years.
There were loads of rumours before their home reverse of this fixture - mainly generated by keyboard warriors, messageboards of spotty oiks and holly wannabes that would shit themselves if faces with a real person!
Bring your kids, don't let them miss out on whats sure to be a teriffic atmosphere - if it rivals the FA Cup game last season (when they bought 4500 and there was no noticeable trouble apart from the usual scuffle or two?) then it will be ace - my boy still talks about it!
I still remember games as a kid where the atmosphere was electric, its what turns kids from having an interest into wanting to go every week!

sorry but once the realisation that they are as good as relegated hits home to the Geordies after our win I beleive due to the overall nature of the Geordie fans there is FAR more likelhood of trouble than in any other fixture this season.

Come on Lord, I think we are safe enough in the Upper Tier!!
Only got to hang around and have a drink after to let the crowd disperse a bit if you are worried.

We've been sitting in the Boothen together for years and there's never been a sniff of bother. Such a great shame not to bring your kids to what will be a great occasion because of any perceived fear of trouble. There is no chance of you getting mixed up in anything unsavoury. I'd happily bring my 4 year old daughter to this game from a safety viewpoint, but she is going through a phase and regularly informs me that "Daddy, Stoke City are the worstest football team in the world ever" so she can stay in the cellar at home until she learns the error of her ways.

Put it like this - I strolled out of Saint James's with my lad in December after the late equaliser, huge grins on our faces and Stoke scarves. Not a sniff of trouble.
Went into Shearer's Bar to meet the in-laws with my lad desparately trying to cover his scarf. Big Geordie lad spotted us and said "eh son, be proud of your colours, you've nothing to worry about in here!" Some decent banter and a great atmosphere.
There might be the odd Geordie idiot on Saturday and a few Stoke idiots but by and large any trouble will be easy to avoid. Just be careful at the top of the hill after you come out of the Family Stand as that's where the inbreds congregate to bravely hurl insults at opposing fans from 100 yards.

People come on here every week saying there's going to be 'trouble' and apart from a few fights after Boro..there never is... Had this been the 1970/80's when away fans could go wherever they liked, and bring as many fans as they could, then there would be a very strong chance of trouble before/during/after the game...but this is 2009 There will be 27,500 down The Brit on Saturday of which 2,900 will be Geordies....and if my math is correct that leaves 24,600 Stokies... And remember..the 2,900 strong Toon Army will be supporters who are season-ticket holders..must have been to at least 500 away games to obtain a ticket etc etc hold a clean driving-license, don't belch or fart in public etc etc i;e, the best behaved fans... So I wouldn't think there would be any trouble whatsover mate

It is part of the great pleasure of being a Dad to take your lad to the match with you. It gives the game an even better edge.
Have fun - both of you.

Last time I saw trouble was Man City when we went down to 3rd division!
Mind you started using north car-park after that, and spend so much time waiting get off any trouble has long gone!

comeonstoke2009 smells a bit fishy to me, he's either a copper or a geordie imo, any sweaty geordies trying to get in the stoke end will wish they hadnt botherd and tbh when they realise how hostile the place is - they won't have the balls to try anyway.

Seriously head for Delilahs after game and let all the chaos calm down and have a peaceful journey home. Good advice go to delilahs for a pint after the game. By the time you've got one and drank it everybody's gone .Been in the familystand all season only trouble is getting anything from the food kiosk at half time. After about 20 minutes there is nobody outside delilah's and the kids normally go outside and play football .Get yourselves down and enjoy it
