Calgary Nothing to do with SSN but can I have some travel advice ??? Going over to Vancouver in early May and was hoping to drive up to Banff for a few days. A couple of sites suggest driving up there April- Nov is not good idea ! Any idea what driving conditions likely to be like in May ??? Thanks in advance

No reason why you shouldn't drive over in May. There is a slight chance of a snowstorm and you have to be careful at that time in BC if it warms up quickly because you can get floods.
The only time I'd avoid driving over would be now. Only last night 5 people were killed in a pile up near Lake Louise. The area is covered in snow and it's been -30c for a week which makes it treacherous out there. It'll be clear again next week though.
You do realise how long a drive it is don't you? You are looking at 10 hours to Banff from Vancouver.
Tip - Make sure you plan to drive in the daylight, I wouldn't fancy it at night.

Cheers for that Calgary ! Yes I am aware of length of drive my plan is to leave Vancouver at crack of Dawn and have 2 nights in Banff before heading back. You're much closer there aren't you ? Maybe I should have gone to Calgary

An hour and half away.
You should give yourself 3 days up there and take a drive up the Icefield Parkway if you like scenery and stuff.

If you get chance you should try to have a chat with Portsmouth Potter (not sure what his name is on this board). He came over here last summer and did the Calgary to Vancouver drive in a big RV. He should be able to give you some good advice.
