Apologies to all if this has been covered here but was anyone else in awe of the two blocks that Danny Pugh put in on Saturday. He has not had many chances this year but what a squad player he has been. Danny has got real quality and never gives less than 110%,in whatever role he is asked to play.
He sums up the tremendous spirit in the squad.
Finally what a great performance from us again. We are staring to get as much respect as the team.
What a treat to get that midfield finally as well.

Agreed.
Pugh has been an asset and an excellent squad player this season. He doesn’t exactly tear up any trees but I also can’t remember him putting in a poor performance or letting himself or his team mates down this season either.
Excellent attitude too.

I agree, i really hope he stays with us for several more seasons because he really is Mr Dependable when called upon. I would say his best position is central midfield, but he also does a solid job at left midfield and left full-back.

This is why TP perseveres with Pugh and Cressers. In his mind, they are 'honest' players and not 'spivs'.

They were brilliant and I think he showed at Stamford Bridge that when we need him he can cut it with the best of them. I also like the fact that whenever we chant his name it always brings a smile to his face, a great squad player to have.

For me he does far too much 'shepherding' of a player in possession, wish he'd put a big tackle in now and again. A good lad though, doesn't let us down

Pugh has been fantastic. He had to wait until December to get his shock opportunity but he has taken it with both hands every time he has gone onto the field.
Players like Pugh are very underrated but he did a sterling job in the centre of midfield on Saturday.

I've always liked him, and having been out of the side for so long, I'm pleased to see that he has become a valuable squad player in our survival bid.

I'll be delighted if Pugh is on the bench for us next season but very dissapointed if Cresswell is managing to find a seat there.

Pugh is a dependable quality player. His best position is not at the wing but in central midfield. I can still remember his effort against Newcastle last season!

I know this is completely off topic, but this post just made me think ... How many managers have Newcastle had since this game? Allardyce, Keegan, Houghton, Kinnear, Houghton (again!), Shearer. What a shambles of a club they are!

I would also point out the last ditch lunges that Whelan did towards the end of the game. One thing that I thought summed up our spirit was very late on when the ball was bouncing around the area it was finally caught by Sorro at his post and the only player following in on this ball was a Stoke player just to make sure if Sorro had dropped it then a player was available to clear the ball. This was a routine catch that Sorro takes cleanly 99% of the time so I was very impressed that our players had the foresight and desire to be there ready to clean up when most of the time a team would have turned away and be trotting off to the half way line. If we can keep up that level of concentration and work ethic then we should be ok against Newcastle.

Agreed. I can't remember pugh ever letting us down. A great asset to the squad. His performance against Villa was absolutely vile. He passed to Villa players 4 times as often as his own players. I thought his was terrible that day. That said, he had a great run last match. He does very well coming off the bench. I hope he continues this run of form for the rest of the season. Onward!

I also think he is a cracking squad player - he's come on as sub in some really tricky situations and done a sound job. Arguably MOM against Man City at home?

Pugh really isn't up to playing left-back or left-midfield in this league, but he can do a decent enough job in central midfield for the odd game.
There are certainly worse players in the squad.
