Am i right in thinking we could apply for a place in this? From what i gather ( might not be correct ) any side who hasn't qualified for other cups ( champions league and uefa cup ) can apply for a place in it, and the highest placed side from the applicants will enter it. Chance for some more silverware in the cabinet and the opportunity to enter uefa cup qualification stages aswell isn't it? I'll still settle for survival though Just noticed the tournament was abolished last year ;D Shit Bin

What is the situation as regards qualification for the Europa League? I know two teams (in 5th and 6th in the league qualify automatically and then the winners of both cup competitions. The league clup has been won by a team who will be in the Champions League and the FA cup will probably go the same way. Does that mean that positions 7 & 8 will potentially get Europa Cup places?
8th place - it is JUST possible for us! ;D

I think we might just squeeze in via our 'Fair Play' record.

Stoke want to get themselves over here and drum up some irish interest now Sunderland are getting relegated. The News of the Screws on sunday were maoning that Trap should have Liam in the squad instead of trying to fit square pegs in round holes....

So as the Carling Cup runners up (Tottingham) don't get into the Europa league then presumably that gives an extra spot to the 7th club - and if the FA Cup final is between top 4 clubs then the 8th club in the league will also get a Europa spot?

this season 7th place gets a "europa" league spot because United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton are all pretty much confirmed for one of the regular uefa spots
1, 2, 3 and 4 get champions league
5 gets europa league
6 gets europa league if league cup winners have qualified for europe via an alternate route
fa cup winners (or losing finalist if winners have already qualified) get europa league
league cup winners get europa league (losing finalists don't)
team with best disciplinary record in europe gets europa league spot
no more intertoto
last season we had: CL: United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal Uefa: Everton fa cup: portsmouth League cup: Spurs Fair play: Man city Intertoto: Villa
this season we probably will have: CL: United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal Uefa: Villa, Everton, A.N.Other Fair play: I think Fulham have the best record at the moment

I agree with stokie5554 its not worth it at all, I think it was ipswich who chose to enter and found themselves stretched sometime ago and ended up back in the championship. Stoke's main focus should be top ten next year. while forming a solid premieship base.
