In the chats today with Pulis, do you think he's been left with the impression that he'll be used primarily as a support striker or to fill in on the left? Hard to say, particularly as he made such an issue of wanting to play up front when we went for him in August - and has apparently turned down a return to PNE where he played most, if not all, of his games in his apparently favoured striker role? And yet, arguing against that, is the fact he's very lightweight to play as a striker in a Pulis team - and he was so successful for us on the left (albeit in a very differently set-up Boskamp team?) Tricky one to work out

I think he plays out wide, he's a real threat cutting in from the left. The upshot of that may mean Griff having to play left back (no bad thing IMO) to cover for Gally's lack of defensive attributes.

It's just nice to have another genuinely creative force in the squad.

Options now are there to be exploited in a all out attack situation you can have 4 3 3 with Gally - Cressy - Fuller or Mama playing the 3 striker role Cressy or Gally on the left if situation requires for a 4 4 2 or the TP favoured 4 4 1 1 with again either Gally or Cressy on the left.

Sure is and although I have had real misgivings about Mama playing I can see a reason he would play with Gally in the team

Pulis wont play him up top, he will be played purely on the wing unless fuller is injured
cresswell will be lucky to get a game up front and cant see parkin coming off the bench

Always liked Gally when he played wide left for us. Very much a threat when he cuts in and heads for goal. Feel, as someone else say's, he's tad light weight to play up front. IMHO

Just by the title of the thread I think it explains a lot about our shortfalls this year. We now have options to change things around and play players in different areas. Conner wait fer tomorra

Yeah, we've certainly got options.
It'll be interesting to see where Gally fits though, as he's not a aard-working wide player or someone who can do what Sidibe does.
I bet Pugh is watching with interest as well. He's arguably not first-choice anywhere in the team now if everyone's match-fit?
I'm sure he'll still get lots of minutes on the pitch though.

That's a good point about Pugh. I'd feel really harsh if he was dropped because he really does give his all.
Can't believe we've got Whelan to be honest.

didnt gally snub us to go on loan at preston because he didnt want to play on the wing.
Im sure he will play up front more than midfield

According to the Preston fans he was pretty wank playing up front as an out n out striker.
I do think his best position is as an attacking wide player.

i think both
But agree with stokey above, he could do a job upfront though, surely.
Preston are a poor side.

Might it not be a case of different looking teams depending on the opposition and whether we are home or away?
Cressie tracks back better and is defensively more sound but Gally is better going forward, with slightly more pace and more skill -so I'd have Gally at home and Cressie away, with one or the other to come off the bench for Mama in second half.
At home, especially now that we have Whelan in central midfield I'd go with Pugh at LB and Grifff at RB as the distribution from the back is then much better and we can try and play the ball in a more controlled manner. I'd start with Mama to try and work the opposition and get a foothold in their half. I think the bench suddenly looks much better and once Salif is fully fit we will have the lovely problem of real competition for places in 8 out of the 11 positions.
