Agree, Kevin Davies is the sort of quality we should be looking to bring in next season although we would probably need Bolton to go down for him to become available. I can definitely see Pulis moving back in for Gary O'Neil and a decent signing if we could get him would be Tom Huddleston.

Tom: Only ever seen him play on the right for Boro and England U-21s. They have Downing on the left.
You're probably right about him being a bit too much of a 'forward thinking' player for TP and that is probably why he doesn't get too many games for Boro (Downing + Johnson?). Still rate him highly though and there will be a sizeable queue to sign him. In any case, Downing will leave Boro and they will fight hard to keep Johnson. Think he's a real star of the future myself.

Two points here. Even if Davies is too much like Beats, aren't we allowed to have spare players like Man Utd etc do? This is what ambition is all about.
Secondly, Unthinkable, why would he not be allowed to leave Bolton, as captain and best player? Ditto Noble and he left for Tyneside, this year.

I think the key thing here, is that Pulis demonstrated with Kitson that he wont adapt the system to suit the player, so we're far better going after the (relatively few) players who would fit his system. Davies would work in a Pulis team perfectly.

Noble left (presumably for a large wage packet and what he saw as a bigger club). I'm guessing it was the player who wanted to leave rather than the club wanting to sell him. Totally different to Davies wanting to leave Bolton for Stoke, particularly if he feels he would be a 'squad player'
It's a none starter.

Nolan left (presumably for a large wage packet and what he saw as a bigger club). There you go ... the precedent has already been set!

Don't think KD would add much really. Next season we need more pace on the right side and KD is not the answer. Not sure who is really.
Some one who does the LL role but with more gas. LL to stay as back up/cover.

Paul:
Do you honestly see Davies leaving Bolton to sit on our bench? Can't see it mate and he would surely be a squad player since TP would appear unlikely to play JB/KD.
I'm not saying Bolton are bigger than us because they are not but they are a more 'established' Premier League Club and players usually look for what they see as a safe bet.
Can't see it happenning but, Hey, I'm often wrong!

Davies enjoys playing right side as much as up top.
He is probably the best old fashioned type of forward of his generation.
I maintain that Rooney would much prefer to play alongside Davies for England than the powderpuffs who keep on being picked in front of him.
Imagine the chaos Stoke could cause at setpieces with Davies, Ric and Beattie in the team.

Can't see it to be honest but if it did his age wouldn't bother me greatly. Always been a fit lad and it's hardly his engine and athleticism that are his best attributes. He's big, amazingly strong, good in the air and causes chaos for any defence.
Probably too late now but i totally agree, if England want the big man leading the line then Davies & Rooney would be much better than Heskey & Rooney to me.

March4:
I share your high opinion of Davies. He is a refreshing change from some of the pansies that now call themselves strikers. I just think that it's unlikely to happen.

No I don't, but I didn't suggest that, erm ... you did.
What do you base this on? Pulis has been more than happy to start with Beattie and Mama, using Fuller as an impact sub, and to tell you the truth if Sidibie had been fit this is probably how Pulis would have set up yesterday.
I wouldn't have thought that Newcastle looked that safe a bet when Nolan joined them. Even if Sunderland stay up I don't think it would surprise that many people if Cisse switched their stripes for ours in the close season yet they are more established than us.
I don't think that anybody is saying that Davies is a 'must have' signing or that he would be nailed on to come if approached but rather that he is one of the few forwards in the Prem currently plying his trade that would fit absolutely perfect into the Pulis system and wouldn't financially be completely out of our reach.

Paul:
Good points mate but I think that Davies is a different player to Mama (similar in some respects). I've not suggested that he would be 'on the bench' all the time but, looking at the line up this season, it would seem likely that he wouldn't get picked every week as he does at Bolton.
Just opinions I know, and I would welcome him. Just don't think it will happen.
