Ratings first:
Sorenseno - 7 - A few decent saves, dominant in the air. Carlos 'Wilko' Alberto - 6 - Gives his winger too much room in away games for my liking, got us into trouble a few times Fayeinho - 9 - Absolute rock. I thought he'd had a dip in form these last few games, but he was back with a vengeance today Roberto Shawcross - 6 - Thought we looked a bit shaky at the back to be honest, asides from Faye. Higginbotho - 6 - As above really, not his best game for us.
Lawrencinho - 6 - Bit disappointing really. Still not hit his best form for us, despite the odd flashes Glenndo - 6 - Frustrating, he'd play a good ball and then play a bad ball, make a good tackle and then lose a tackle. el Delapos - 7 - Nice to see him back in his natural position. Throws not all there today, but I didn't expect anything from them against these. Etheringtono - 6 - Not his best game for us, but his first start in ages and he does give us a get out ball.
Beattied - 7 - Won us the ball in the air, got a goal. What else do you want?
Ricardinho - 8 - He is the King of Smethwick.
Pretty pleased with our performance today as a whole. I had a feeling things were going to go well when I heard the line-up. So often we've felt beaten before games having heard that we're playing a bizarre team, like against Bolton and Blackburn. Today though, we all knew that attacking-wise, this was our strongest team. I'm not sure that Pulis will carry on with Delap and Whelan in the middle, though. Very good on the halfway line and beyond, but I felt they didn't really cover the defensive line so well. I suspect that he could select Diao or Faye next week so as to keep Newcastle's central midfielders away from the edge of the box. If that is the case and he wants to keep our two wingers, it has to be Whelan to go. Too inconsistent on the ball and doesn't have half the intelligence of Delap. Having said that, I'd love to keep the midfield as it was today, give this line-up a few run outs for the final games.
The defence looked a bit dodgy at times, they had too many clear sights of goal for my liking BUT Sorensen looked a lot more commanding in the air. Hopefully he's over the bad spell he's had.
How bad are West brom? I can't see one part of that team that looks good enough for anything other than mid-table Championship mediocrity. An absolutely woeful showing from both players and fans. Credit to the away support though, absolutely fantastic.
