So, after resisting for aeons but drawn by posters on here, for the first time in my life i put talksport on the radio yesterday to see what the fuss was about, and why it gets such a response from the posters on here for their anti-Stoke leanings.
I had it on for an hour yesterday, from 4 to 5 and i can safely say without fear of contradiction it is the worst piece of broadcasting that i have ever heard in my life. A bloke called Danny Kelly, who I suppose is the same fat four eyed clown who got fired from the BBC was hosting a show with Darren Gough and they were talking about Shearer going back to Newcastle, and inviting people to call in, e-mail in and have their say on what was a big sporting day in the North East. Want to know how many calls they took? 2. Want to know how many of those callers were from the North east? None.
Of the hour i listened, at least 20 minutes (it felt like much, much more) were advertising and the rest of the time was given to listening to Danny Kelly talking Shearer down and ridiculing the fact that northeners clearly had no jobs because they were all outside St James (on Sky Sports News it looked like there were about 150 there) and requesting for mythical callers to call in (apparently the switchboard was "lighting up" but they chose not to put any fuckers through), e-mail or text there opinion, which again weren't read out.
Talksport is the Daily Star of broadcasting, i can't think of a greater insult to throw it than that. It neither entertains, educates or informs & it's the last available bastian for corpulent southern know-alls when the BBC have dispensed with their services. I was expecting some pretty edgy stuff, but it's so obviously designed to be inflamatory it's laughable so to all those who go apoplectic with rage every time they start banging their drum about Stoke City (and they do that simply because they know they will get a reaction) just turn the fucking thing off, and ask yourself why on earth you were listening to it in the first place.

There's piss poor radio journalism and then there's talksport. Sadly for me, the only bright spot is that I quite enjoy H&J.

It's for van drivers from Dagenham who vote BNP and think Arsene Wenger is the second coming.

Kelly is actually one of the least objectionable creatures on the station. Try Durham, Wright, Irani, Quimm, Parry and Cundy if you really want to subject yourself an earful of wank.

VP - what you heard was not completely representative of that timeslot*. Usually it's hosted by the notorious Adrian Durham and assisted by Ian Wright. This week, Wright has been off and Gough has been filling in admirably. He is a northern, cricket-playing version of Wright from what I can tell. Don't know where Durham was yesterday , Kelly usually does the evening spot - 7-10pm. He's usually quite good at that hour, but I think the tabloid mentallity has ben rubbing off lately after he was slagging us the other week. It is indeed red-top radio - aimed at Van Drivers, Builders and betting-shop regulars if you go by the adverts and the ill-informed content. * It's usually even more w*nk! ;D

Talk Sport is the radio station where they once had the debate, ' should Liverpool be its own country'.
Two words sum Talk Sport up to me...Micky Quinn ( aka fat c*nt )

It seems you tuned in on a good day VP, had Durham and Wright been broadcasting you’d have really had cause to ridicule it. As you say it’s tabloid radio of the lowest order and for the most they employ people other broadcasters have either discarded or would never employ.
Adrian Durham has made his career by being controversial he says, no Adrian being controversial is making valid points in the face of public opinion and then being able to defend those points when challenged. When challenged on your comments you rarely justify your opinions and simply turn to abusing someone who disagrees with you. That’s not controversial Adrian it’s I have a button here and can cut you off whenever I like and then abuse you afterwards when you have no come back, wow shock jock supreme.
Ian Wright, what can we say he was a fine forward but had a very nasty streak which many would say made him a better player, lots of players have a nasty streak but to then actually stand on some high altar and criticise others for showing the same tendencies as he did is pure hypocrisy. He doesn’t like Stoke, fine I couldn’t give a toss. Though when he accuses players at this club of deliberately setting out to injure others I take offence. He can dislike how Stoke play and I can dislike his crude and ham fisted attempts to be a broadcaster, does he believe any television or radio station would employ him if he hadn’t been an ex footballer. They don’t employ you for your wit and talent Ian they employ you because you were privileged to play football. Those fine radio presenter of years gone by must cringe every time they hear your monosyllabic tones on the airwaves.

Talkshite lost its 'edge' about 6 years ago...now its a very tired format that really should be confined to the bin.

So i got it on a good day then? Christ almighty.
Gough did do his best in fairness, but he's always been a decent sort. And these adverts, i'm positive there was regulation as to how many adverts you were allowed to broadcast in one hour? I know on TV it's 9 minutes and i thought it was similar on Radio, but this station had 5 minute breaks at a time, never heard anything like it.
Next time i'm mildly irritated by Simon Mayo or Victoria Derbyshire, i shall remember that hour and thank fuck for the BBC. The options are unthinkable.

Vestan...a couple of years ago I was stcuck on the M25 in my car with Talkshite on and the banal adverts were really getting on my tits so over the period of an hour I timed how much actually relevant sports talk there was on the subject in hand......it was 28 minutes the rest were adverts, news and weather updates on the half hour repeated competitions. Utter shite

Radio 5 is often just as bad. Someone has just said no one wants to see Newcastle relegated.

Radio 5 is often just as bad. Someone has just said no one wants to see Newcastle relegated. Newcastle fans actually still think they're really popular, but they aren't! Most of my customers are Liverpool Everton Citeh ManUre Blackburn and Bolton fans and every single one of them that I've talked football to has expressed their desire to see the Geordies gone. I think most people feel WBA have gone (apart from Mowbray who is still chasing Europe!) and then Boro are looking iffy with Newcastle emerging as favourites to join them. I'd love to see them gone and will phone Mickey Quimm up daily to let him know once they've gone

Couldn't agree more. Its only merit is that it's occasionally so bad that it is actually funny. The inflammatory ramblings are so transparent that you have to wonder why anyone bothers to phone up. Judging by VP's experience, not many actually do. I suppose all the stuff about Stoke is just more of this, but it would be nice if we really had pissed them off for whatever reason.

Stan Colleymore was one of the most underrated summarisers on 5 Live before he joined Talksport IMHO. He is easily one of the most honest, passionate and intelligent broadcasters they have on TS - they won't keep him for much longer. Andy Townsend is also a fair and intelligent broadcaster.
The rest are complete crap. That 'jingle' of the Sun reading southern wanker who says "Tawk-spor'" (with every Southeast glottal stop going), sounding like he's just tucked into pie and mash at some Cockney caff typifies both the station's outlook and its market audience. Leave it to London fans and ignore it. We'll always be a laughable northern monkey club as far as they're concerned, so why bother getting into an argument.
