Just seen a clip of an interview with him on BBC1, when asked about the job he said;
"A friend said to me, 'if you didn't take the job and they (Newcastle) stayed up, would you regret it?' and I would"
If the quote was 'and they went down' fair enough, but he didn't say that. Unless it's a complete freudian slip, then it's a very strange soundbite!

It did strike me as a bit odd. Maybe he's just being honest, he wants all the recogntion he can get for keeping them up.

Ego's are a strange thing.
And I have to say those Geordies are stranger than most.

He has never made sense as a pundit, why do you think a change to management will help?

I officially find geordies the most irritating nobheads going and i didnt realise that until recently,
1 - the annoying ssssssssshhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr in that shite voice ( makes you just want to land one on em)
2 - they are so deluded and disespectful to other clubs saying they are to big to go down. It seems they think that they really are a MASSIVE club and everybody should look up to them, get real you geordie wankers, nobody gives a shit about your shitty club.
3 - Robson Green in that new fishing program Extreme fishing is also an annoying wanker, he talks about newcastle and its folk to all the foreigners as if its gods country and bigs the place and its folk up at any opportunity, its fucking cringeworthy. the man is a grade A prick.

A journalist friend of mine interviewed Shearer when he was still playing for England. Shearer insisted on being sent the questions in advance and they came back with all the potentially awkward ones crossed out. My friend went ahead and asked them anyway. (He was an experienced journalist who had interviewed top players in the UK and Europe and had never come across anything like this before.) Shearer just answered: "Alan Shearer is not going to comment on that question". Tosser.

to be fair jen that's pretty standard procedure for just about any "celebrity" interview

to be fair jen that's pretty standard procedure for just about any "celebrity" interview I agree it is now - but it wasn't back then - and my friend had certainly never come across it before. It was the moment he decided that the egos had taken over in football.

I don't really understand that quote either!
I suppose he means he will take all the credit if they do stay up - which they won't!
But if they were good enough to stay up without him then he isn't needed!!
