Can anyone confirm whether we could legally (or without breaching Premiership regulations) add a standing section to the stadium?
Like many here, I grew up watching football from terraces. If we do take the step of filling some corners at the end of the season, I think it would be great if some of this new space was allocated to a "standing only" area.
It would allow us to introduce a cheaper ticketing band at a time when many genuine supporters are struggling to afford Premiership pricing.
It would add another dimension to the stadium atmosphere.
It would maximise the physical space that we have available to offer to spectators.
Stoke have led the way this season by bringing the peoples game back to the people. Lets take it to the next step (excuse the pun).

i think its a great idea, but legally not allowed presently..... although people are loodging for it to be allowed to be brought back in there is nothing in LAW that says we can't, only the FA, Prem and FL rules |

=>Jump up and down properly when we score
=>Form in groups to get the singing going
=>Stand next to whoever you like and move somewhere else if they are pissing you off
=>Keep warm when its cold
Seating has nearly finished me and football!

Germany is a different country and the german FA have their own rules, the terracing isn't used in UEFA games or Internationals , to my knowledge |

I think that would be an amazing idea and it needs putting to stoke to get some info to see if it would be possible at all. The atmosphere at the game would be 'triffic'. I'm also to young to fully remember standing at games(being 20) but i can imagine the atmosphere would be immense! |

Ilforddave, I cant quote on other clubs in Germany,but if Hamburg do it I can see all the other clubs in Germany following suit. Nearly all the grounds over here have standing areas, even in the grounds built for the last championship, most if not all!! have the ends with standing areas used as the home end as we would call it. Man City fans when they come over will have the corner of the groung reserved for away fans and that is all standing with seats above, so if the germans can do it theres nowt stopping us doing it is there ? And after all the word INTERNATIONALS says it all eh ?

I loved standing at football matches whether home or away. I was never as cold as I am sometimes when sitting and it seemed easier to generate some noise.
We lost terracing because those lovable rogues from Liverpool couldn't behave themselves twice and because of a right wing government who thought all football fans were thugs and fenced us in as though we were in concentration camps.

Yeh, put me in the 'bring back terracing' camp, I don't think there was any need to go all seater in the first place, it was the fencing at Hillsbrough that did the damage, if the fencing wasn't there people would have simply flooded onto the pitch, so I don't see any danger of a repeat of what happened that day.
It was also largely police incompetence that led to the Hillsbrough disaster.

yh i suppose but those who want to sit all match should be made to sit in the john smiths so it doesnt stop the rest in the boothen and the seddon standing. but that would be a pain in the arse for the club to sort out

Think you'll find people wh want to stand are in a minority. Especially a full house when the view is restricted and chavs start the if your a fan jump around chants. Better off just having a pen for idiots in one of the corners.

went and watched Wycombe v Shrewsbury yesterday on my way down to Wembley and stood on the terracing there. Creates a much better atmosphere in my opinion. I think after Colchester last year I've probably stood for the last time watching Stoke tough |

I'd donate a bollock for the cause of having standing back. I'm only 20 myself so haven't experienced it that much, but in the two seasons I was going to games before they killed the Vic I always wanted to go in the Boothen. It was quality. Ended up in the Butler Street sometimes, which was okay, but the old Boothen. MMM. Outstanding.

trebor63, all who belong to FSF will see how much we're doing on this topic and that it will again be debated and updated at our conference, on Tyneside in June.
The difficulty is in persuading stubborn administrators that we do NOT want to insist on anyone sitting or standing. Our argument has always been for freedom of choice.
Re German grounds, many have removable seating, which we will be demonstrating at our Fans Parliament (conference). These are used for European competitions, where standing is illegal, and taken out, in certain sections, (like FSF want) for league games. They are very popular and noisy!
It is important to remember that the horror of Hillsborough - 20th anniversary in a fortnight - was caused by bad policing and outdated turnstiles. Fans were not counted through and therefore not restricted according to capacity, resulting in the fatal crush and ensuing deaths and injuries. Plus fencing which prevented the victims from escaping on to the pitch.
FSF wants SAFE standing in limited sections and are still fighting on the issue.

I would happily pay as much to stand as to sit. I mean, after all, if you feel like sitting down at a match, you're not getting your money's worth of excitement anyway...

Standing being banned is nothing to do with the 'PC brigade' and everything about clubs short-sightedly (in my view) looking to attract a more well-off fan base, who can also shell out on extras and won't cause any trouble to spoil the Premier League's image.
Standing would in fact provide an excellent way of ensuring a bigger fan base and thus counteracting glory hunting - if all you can afford is watching telly then you might as well support a top team rather than your local one. In the long run it is local people who keep most clubs going so we should do everything to keep them in.
Imagine the Brit with 5,000 extra in it due to terracing. Awesome!

All seaters were introduiced for safety reasons. All the trying to get rid of one crowd for a more affluent one came later.
The wording of the Taylor report makes it clear safe terracing was achievable. BUT the powers that be in football were so incompetent they couldn't be trusted to do it properly. That was a big factor in all seaters becoming compulsory. LJT was nobody's fool

If standing crowds of 20,000+ can be safely accomodated at a rugby league game, there is no real reason it cant be done in a modern football ground.
I remember the old kop at Valley Parade, Bradford, was made up of squared areas rather than simple straight barriers. Seemed to make it a lot easier to control for the stewards and stopped one area getting to congested.
