Based on what I've seen this season (and I may well update this as the season goes on:
Everton: Same as Villa. I was starting to think that these Premiership supporters were surprisingly good after this. Maybe a bit louder. 8.5.
Aston Villa: Pretty good, filled out their end and made a fair bit of noise. 8
Tottenham: Another traditional powerhouse of the game, another decent following. 7.
Hull: Similar to West Brom, not a great atmosphere, tense game. Made a bit of noise though. 6.
West Brazil: Not a good atmosphere at this match at all. Very tense. Brazil fans fairly quiet. 5.
Manchester City: Not particularly great either, but they were competing against what I would say was the best home atmosphere this season. 4.
Sunderland: Pretty much silent. Can understand the low numbers for a midweek match, but those who were there looked like they'd have preferred to be absolutely anywhere else in the world. 4.
Bolton: Another weeknight, another lacklustre away support. 3.
Chelsea: Absolute crap. Made a bit of noise but only the same old generic songs. Very, very disappointing. 3.
Middlesbrough: Fans reflected their team. 3.
Arsenal: Atrocious. Really, really dire. I don't think they even noticed that they scored, they literally didn't celebrate. Can you imagine if it was the other way around a la Villa away? 2.
Portsmouth: Any team whose fans sing that awful 'Ode to Joy' thing should be forced to play behind closed doors. Sold about a third of their tickets, only had two songs. Minus points for 'Ode to Joy'. 2.
Liverpool: Very similar to Manchester United. No support whatsoever. 1.
Manchester United: Probably the worst away support of the season. Had one song that they only sang once, otherwise they all sat their taking photos and waiting patiently to unfurl banners about how they hate England. 0.
Fulham: Missed the game due to illness. No score.

Although not in the prem, Derby were the best. Apart from that i'd say Everton. Maybe even Middlesbrough for giving it a good go.

MD; Was in the South Stand and Middlesbrough gave it a good go. Their songs were repetative and boring but they kept it going.
0/10 though for booing their players off.

I also thought that middlesbro were prbs the best away following this year in terms of noise during the game..... bt their reaction when the players were walking to the tunnel with fans giving them all the fingers and telling them how bad they are was disgraceful, rather then telling the players to keep the faith

Villa/Everton/Spurs/Portsmouth all about the same..

Hull was pretty loud from in our end. The only thing I remember about the Hull game...apart from Hull scoring with their first attack of the game..deep into stoppage time first-half...completely against the run of play..was Widow Twanky (Tango Man) swirling around in all that fog..talking to himself...swirling in and out of the mist..his reputation dissapearing before our very eyes..

I don't understand any of this 'Middlesbrough were the best'. I sit in the West Stand and heard very little from them. I think what is being said is that they had a couple of hundred noisy fans who were a credit to their club. Because of the paltry numbers attending the overall volume was minimal.
For me it was Villa or Everton, although the disgraceful chants of 'Argentina' by the glory hunters was probably the loudest chant of any away team (spits on the ground in disgust)

Although not in the prem, Derby were the best. Derby were allocated the whole of the south stand (4,800, compared to 2,900 normally), so it's not a fair comparison. Also, although they kept up their support throughout the game, I didn't think that they were particularly loud - We were VERY quiet that night, which is why the ewe-botherers could be heard so clearly. However, they would win the award for the most tedious and irritating collection of "songs" I've heard at the Brit for a good while. * * Probably since Derby's previous visit.

it depends where you sit to judge there level of noise, im normally sat in the boothen end so away support doest seem very loud, but against chelsea i was in john smiths lower right by the tunnel and trust me chelsea were very loud

The best place to be able to measure the level of noise would be halfway along the JS. Equidistant from both the Boothen and the away fans, and with not the slightest bit of noise from anywhere nearby to affect one's judgment. ;D

Also thought Mboro were the loudest, well first half at least. They were drowned out a bit 2nd half. Chelsea were pretty loud, credit to Villa, Spurs, Everton, Hull. Worst by far were Liverpool - not one decent song, even 500 Fulham fans made more noise.

We on the otherhand were immense.

The noise made by away fans of course depends on where you sit...last year I was in The JSL and on many occasions the away support sounded louder than the home support especially Sheff Weds/Wolves...this year I'm on row 30 of The Boothen so its bound to sound different... But IMO Boro and Derby made the most noise no doubt about it...

The best place to judge the noise from the away support is if you stand next to all of them each game. The majority of those in the South Stand (including me) think Middlesbrough were loud. They were fewer in number than most but made more noise. It may not be the best place from an acoustic point of view but it is certainly the best place from which to make a comparrison if you are next to the away support every game.
Wizzardofdribble: Sheffield Wed have always had great support both in numbers and in vocal support. They are easily the best supported club every season they have played at the Brit.

I agree about the Wednesday comments - always turn out in good numbers and voice. Though they were surprisingly quiet at their place last season
