Must be the daftest place to pick a fight for hooligans. Belfast police are well used to mobs and running street battles. Hope they all (N.I. and Pols) got a good tonking.

Northern Irish football supporters identify with Protestanism whereas the Poles will be predominately Catholic.
This violence isn't really funny and could have tragic consequences.
Northern Ireland is a tinder box at the best of times.

Two of us went there in the 80's when Stoke played Linfield , Was still troubled times there, indeed two bombs went off in the distance whilst the game was being played..you got the sense the place was living on it's nerves, regardless of which side of the street you came from.
But spent a great few days there, much of the thanks for that went to our self appionted escort from a very famous bar associated with Linfield...
Once he'd satisfied himself we were who we said we were and the reason for our visit was purely Stoke, football and beer and not politics , think he enjoyed himself as much as us...as in his own words we helped ' bring a sense of normality to his life for a couple of days'
Probably enough from that trip for a chapter in a book..including the last night being invited to watch videos at the pub..before being given a lift back to Belfast harbour for the ferry back to Liverpool.Thinking we were off for a gentleman's evening of porn and perhaps a stripper off we toddled, only to get there to find the place packed watching videos of marches.

I go over for work quite regularly, similar thing happened to me with the vidoes but it was of rangers matches, it was 2 in the morning and the eyes were drooping after quite a few beers, when somebody told me I would insult them if I fell asleep whilst Rangers were on, I stood to attention and saluted for the next 2 hours

Northern Ireland supporters are predominantly Protestant although that is starting to change now in Belfast with a few supporters coming from The Falls/West Belfast/Ardoyne areas... There is a big Polish contingent in Northern Ireland as well as Ireland itself (especially Limerick)...and I think the Poles in Belfast are the subject of a lot of abuse now that unemployment is rising.. One thing is for sure..they couldn't have picked a worse place for a fight...
