It's great that the club are considering something like this because I'm sure it would also improve the accoustics, making the bearpit even louder, bringing the JS crew closer together with the Boothen. It's just a shame that this seems dead money in a way. I wonder just what proportion of the cost would it be to put up just the outer shell of the proposed corner stand either with or without the roof? I mentioned some time ago that maybe there could be funding available for using the area as a state of the art facility for disabled supporters and/or extra executive boxes.

First would come the foundations and that would be a huge outlay.

I dont understand this . . . . . the iclandics said if we get promoted within 3 years ( Did we do it ? ) we would have the corners filled in, Then stoke said " if we get promoted we will do it " We got promoted and they said " If we stay up " now i would think we could stay up. We should have them done !

What a silly idea
We sold 18,000 season tickets last season plus the club keeps 2,000 for 'hospitality/corporate ' etc plus 2,900 for away fans..that leaves just over 4,000 tickets available for the general public...
We have sold out nearly every game but away fans haven't always taken up their full allocation...thats why its a good idea to split the South Stand into three parts so home fans can fill the empty seats (like the 1200 against Boro)
This year we are expected to sell over 20,000 ST's close to 21,000 which means only 2,000 tickets available to the public for any premiership game next season..
So why the feck are we not filling in at least one corner this summer..provided we stay up...???
A giant wind brake makes us look small and backward thinking and a bit ridiculous to be honest.. This club needs to move forward...not back to the bad old days when we had absolutely NO AMBITION
Think again Stoke
Very bad idea

Reading had a plan to increase their capacity and were relegated within 2 years. No point building a white elephant stand with no one sitting in it in the championship.

Bollocks to the windbreak. Our ground is incredibly unwelcoming and hostile to every visiting team and the howling winds play a part in making it just that. Why change it? ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/ibnJJzaA6ZhfTOIekEAf.gif)

Get it built. My nuts freeze in the Winter in the Seddon. And in the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Froze my nuts off too! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif) Not sure though as the swirling wind makes it even more unwelcoming for the fairer visitors - remember Liverpoo warming up in the tunnel? No pun untended!

The reality is that it will cost a heap of money to build a new stand and perhaps take ten years to pay it off in extra revenue. So it's a big decision to make and certainly would be a waste of money if we're back on championship attendances in a couple of years time..... thats the reality!

I think they should customise this windbreak with a pic and slogan..
WELCOME TO THE BEAR PIT.. BE PREPARED TO BE TORN APART...or something like that..any other suggestions?

Any big stadium project, such as the construction of a new stand or corner, requires a large sum of money to be set aside and inevitably digs into the team's spending power. Teams who undertake big projects like this often start to struggle because of a lack of funds - look at Coventry now, the teams in the lower leagues who inexplicably built 20,000 + seaters and Southampton. The only team to have really gotten away with it are Leicester, who got rid of their stadium debt by going into administration, getting no penalty and getting promoted.

Windbreak behind the video screen and put seats in that little area in front of the video screen too.

"Planning applications have been lodged for the windbreak and for permission to put advertising on it."
Sounds to me like what we are really doing is putting up a giant advertising hording!

Sheffield Utd developed one corner, cost aprox £2-£3m
not like we would be building a whole stand is it.

I have no doubt that idf we can maintain a place in the Prem, once we are established the corners will be filled in properly. Not sure if I want a codged up job done on the corners, the Brit isn't the most aesthetically pleasing stadium as it is. Much better to see the oipposition struggling with our gale force breezes, that have the opposing fans take the piss out of our own little 'theatre of dreams'.

just shows that no matter what the club does people will moan. Spend millions on seating it at id we go down over the next few seasons and start to get 14000 again what a waste. You wouldnt believe what the clubs long term plans are for there but we are not in the position to do yet. People have moaned for years about how cold it is...they do something about it and people complain. Believe me tho its gonna be massive. Its a short term measure and if we stay in the prem for a few seasons things will change and seating etc will go in there

Why put a windbreaker in that wind all adds to the discomfort opposing players face here ,lets stay up build again in pre season And consolidate ourselves as a premier league team first then expand the stadium ,us fans And that ground have been vital in this seasons great home form ,why change things this early

In the championship it wanted doing but the attendance figures were a good reason not to, though I think the attendances would have been more with the corners filled in due to being a warmer more welcoming stadium for supporters and better atmosphere. We have done well this season, filled the ground, given the team the best support any team could wish for and if we stay in the premier league, the ground should be extended to accommodate the extra demand. Fitting a screen where there should have been seats installed and blocking the other corner doesn't look good for the ambition of the club. Move the screen to the roof and fill in the corners, then the brilliant atmosphere we have witnessed this season will look average in comparison to a fully enclosed Britannia stadium.

I seem to be in a minority here as I feel this must be an early April Fool's joke.
I've not seen anything so small-time and ridiculous in all my years watching SToke. A f***** windbreak?
WHat, with a gigantic bucket and spade behind it?
So what if it's wet, windy and wild. That actually helps our team. Durr, anyone notice at SCFC that we don't play too much football and not too many teams like thge barren, windswept bearpit that is The Brit?
Arrr, some iccle STokies don't like it too chilly-will then? Get a life Stoke, take the roofs off, fill the terraces with 6 inches of urine and let's make The Brit even uglier for away teams and the media.
I truly cannot believe we are even contemplating wasting money on this. A windbreak at a football match ffs.

fill the boothen corner and put stokies from south stand into it, leave the away end for 4k away fans, i was hoping we'd have loadsa banter between us and the opposition this season but only having a couple of thousand away fans ruins the banter chances. i know a lot of the teams wouldnt fill it but at least give them the chance

The only game this season that hasn't sold out to home fans is, strangely, Arsenal That's not true. Man city there was loads of empty seats at the bottom of the home section of the south stand.

Vehicle administrator Nicola Bourne admits it can be chilly sitting in the Boothen End, but not as cold as at Huddersfield or Burnley.
The 27-year-old said she had started to feel the draught more since a burly fan who used to sit next to her moved.

kingdeano i think if you did a little bit of research you may be able to get a few facts right.i had to miss the bolton game because it was sold out![couldnt comit myself to getting a ticket becuz of work however thought there would be no problem with getting one one the day!!fekin glory hunters where were you when i was standing on the boothen with crowds of less than 12,000?? re filling in the corners it is my firm belief that the corners where the scoreboard and between the boothen and the main stand should be filled in asap move the scoreboard[on the roof?]i know this will only raise capacity by 2-3,000 but at 30 quid a go it will soon start to pay for itself and in these troubled times it is proberly the best time to get the job done as construction firms will be undercutting each other.
