He isn't going to be able to command anywhere near that tho, 120 grand a week for less than 60 games in 3 seasons
I'm not saying we could or should but you would of thought TP may go sniffing ?!?

ok serious answer, Owen has been a top player for years but injuries have, and will continue to dog him, thats my opinion. Can't honestly see another big club coming in for him again. If, sorry when Castle drop maybe he will stay, but as said above he's on megabucks at the mo!

It's true, he won't get another contract like the one he's on but, considering our top earner gets a reputed £35,000 a week Owen is a none starter.
He's got local ties and knows the area well and I think he likes us (just the impression I get). His dad played for the Vale. |But money talks and, injuries or no injuries, there will be a very long list of potential takers. My guess is Everton!

I rekon he'll go Man City the only club stupid enough who would pay him the wages he's on now.

Michael has already made plans/arrangements to become a race horse trainer once he retires from football. He is a very wealthy man and I don't think his next move will be so dependent on huge wages. I think geography will play an important part and I don't think he'll stay at Newcastle even if they stay up.
Having said that, he'll want considerably more than we could pay him and he'll get much better offers.

P.S. He certainly is NOT shite trend but he has become very injury prone and who knows if he'll get back to anywhere near the level he's been in the past. If he can't I think he'll call it a day.

Michael Owen is the best finisher in the league behind Anelka imo

His goal scoring record is amazing! Can't quote the exact figures but most people might be suprised how stunning his goals to games ratio is (even at Newcastle). People seem to think that he has been pretty poor at Newcastle but he has a fantastic scoring record for games played despite his absences with injuries.

Very good player, great finisher and will always score goals when he is fit......which unfortunately is not very often these days.
Still, he has enough qualityfor some of the "bigger" clubs in the Prem to risk a hefty sum of money on his wages, although I imagine the fee wouldn't be astronomical and the contract may be a short one.
I'll go with Man City or Spurs.

Michael Owen is the best finisher in the league behind Anelka imo Indeed he probably is. Isn't his goals to games ratio still somet like 1 in 2? The problem being however, is that he's only managed to start (approx) 60-70 games for Newcastle since 2005! So in reality he's only managed to muster about 30 goals in four seasons, which is a shocking return for the money he's paid. How long has he got left on his contract at 'Castle, I seem to remember he signed a new one not too long ago? I can't really see why somebody would want to take a risk on him, or why he'd give up the massive contract he's already got, recent history would suggest he's not going to be playing that much anyway!

Paul: Yes it is something like 1 goal in 2 but he hasn't played anywhere near enough games. Still if he plays, he scores and clubs will always risk money on his record.
I honestly believe that Michael will not 'hang around' if he feel that he can't do himself justice and I wouldn't be a bit suprised if he 'called it a day' early if he believes that he can't get back to full fitness and back to his best.
like I said, he has big plans in place.

I think Michael has been over-rated ever since '98
Put him in this Stoke team and he'd have even less impact that Kitson IMO, he needs the ball to feet and misses more than people care to mention, plus he spends 4/5s of a season out injured.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to over-rate him. He has a goal scoring record second to none. What's more, it has all be achieved at the highest level and his International scoring record is as good as his club records.
Over the past 10 years there has not been another striker in anywhere near the same class.
Yes injuries have kept his appearances down in the past few seasons but, even then, he has averaged better than a goal every two games. But for injury, he would have broken every goal scoring record in the book.
How on earth has he been over rated?

Anyone know how long his contract has to run? When it runs out or if he leaves on Newcastle's relegation he will have a big decision to make. He just isn't going to be able to earn the sort of money he's been used to and that is down to his injury record. He may have lost some pace but he hasn't lost his ability.
Whare he goes will depend upon how much he wants to play. If he is happy to have cameo roles then he'll go to a top club to be used sparingly. If he wants more pitch time then he'll go to a club below the top level with an agreement that if fit he will play and his contract may be largely made up of appearance money.

Owens record speaks for itself and is still a high quality finisher...cant believe there are some who wouldn't have him. He will move on from Newcastle in the summer and location will be more important than money. His stables are near Whitchurch and his family is around chester so North West or Midlands club beckons....Everton wouldn't be a surprise or Villa
