It seems just as the love in began some in the media just couldn’t take it anymore and decided to form the anti Stoke committee and launch their assault. It seems some people just aren’t happy that a club who were supposed to roll over and play dead simply wont lie down and die.
As we as supporters basked in the reflective glory of another hard fought home victory at the fortress Britannia, the sheer joy of being once more out of the bottom three and with a more than realistic chance of staying out until May. As much of the media lined itself up behind the mighty Potters and hailed them as a triumph of home over expectation and praised the club at all levels for playing to it’s strengths and for not falling into the big time Charlie world of the Premiership prim Donna syndrome. We were described as a breath of fresh air with supporters who not only showed passion but who were a throwback to real supporters of yesteryear.
Though of course the forces of darkness were gathering, a collection of individuals who simply can’t abide such praise for any club that doesn’t have a billionaire owner who changes managers almost as often as he changes facial expressions, a scary red faced manager, who is obsessed with time and with an accent you could cut with a knife, a manic visually impaired Frenchman who blames everyone apart from himself for every defeat or a happy go lucky Spaniard in charge of the hubcap museum of the North West. They do of course have a few other obsessions, those so called glamour clubs who have fallen on hard times. Those North London giants and their lovable cockney manager Arry two envelopes Redknapp and of course the Leviathan of the North East that is known to the world as Newcastle United.
So who are these forces of darkness and should we as supporters be worried that they are out there.
Ian Wright, the man who conquered San Marino at international level, yes a top class league forward but a complete failure at the highest level. Since his retirement he has gone from mildly entertaining circus clown to the annoying bitter side prick of a Ginger wind up merchant oh how the Wrighty have fallen. He is described as a legend by his fawning colleague, guess they’ve never actually met a real legend the word you are searching for Adrian is Bell end. Why does Ian dislike Stoke so much, simple one of our players had the temerity to challenge his son a little over zealously during a game, what’s more we won that game and more so pointed out that his son should have been sent off for a petulant act of retaliation. Well Ian, you don’t like us and we don’t care, your son still should have been sent off and you are and always will be the master of San Marino and yes a bell end.
Adrian Durham, why does this man hate us it seems to be shrouded in the mists of time he is apparently a supporter of Peterborough United known as the posh. It seems a wonderful Paul Ware free kick on a windy night in his home town left a very bitter taste in his mouth and so he has been diligently waiting for our arrival at the top level to vent his bile. He would love it apparently if we were relegated, of course he would you can’t have real passion and love for a club in the Premiership, clubs such as Stoke are supposed to arrive roll over and go back down again. We don’t play pretty football like the Baggies, this is true but we have 8 more points so it seems we play far more effective football than the Baggies. It seems it would be better in the eyes of such fawning people like Durham if we played up and went down with grace. We all know Mr Durham is a wind up merchant and to be fair he’s good at it, not because he actually has valid points that people don’t like but because he’s totally annoying and making a living from it.
Mick Quinn, the Pavarotti of Merseyside apparently believes Newcastle don’t deserve to go down because of their wonderful supporters yet we do. I guess if he read the press he might see the irony of that statement. We’re a pub side in comparison, well Mr Quinn our pub side are 3 points above the Geordies and still have to host them at the fortress Britannia. It doesn’t mean we’ll win but I know which side of the fence I would like to be sitting right now, playing a side who look like relegation fodder without a leader either on or off the field at present or a side who are a team, not full of overpaid superstars but full of character and determination backed by some of the most passionate supporters anywhere in football. I would say if Newcastle finish in the bottom three Mickey they have deservedly gone down wouldn’t you as will we if in the same position.
Jeremy Alexander, the so called football journalist from the Guardian newspaper. It seems he didn’t enjoy his experience at the Britannia last weekend and then used his position to vent his spleen in print. He accused the supporters of being vulgar and crude, the team he claimed matched their supporters and it was almost criminal that we had beaten the more aesthetically pleasing on the eye Middlesboro. I wasn’t aware that football had become like Miss World and only the beautiful need apply to take part. It would seem Mr Alexander was so offended by his afternoon in the Potteries he had to take several baths in Asses milk to cleanse himself of the stench, yet the only Ass at the Britannia on Saturday seems to have been holding a press badge.
I couldn’t care less who believes we are going down, if someone believes we’re not good enough then I can relate to that, it’s an opinion and we shall see who’s correct when the final whistle is blown.
What I find amusing and also slightly bemusing is sheer dislike for reasons other than actual football. I am sorry we have ruffled a few feathers on the rich mans bird table, it’s a shame out supporters actually care enough to make noise and chant crudely at some Prima Donna from the opposition who parades around the pitch like the Sugar Plum fairy at Covent Garden.
It seems very strange that the people who accuse Stoke of ruining football condone the very behaviour that I detest. The so called superstars of the game, berating referees at every decision, throwing themselves to the floor as if shot by a sniper when hardly touched. The waving of the imaginary card in an attempt to get fellow professionals sent off. Managers who are constantly in the faces of the fourth official disputing every damn decision that doesn’t go for them.
When so called stars like Rooney, Gerrard and Ronaldo behave like petulant schoolboys in front of the officials and yet nothing happens, yet the same referee will reach for his pocket if a lesser player simply hasn’t got the correct coloured shirt on or his name doesn’t fetch enough on E-bay at the end of the game.
So I agree there’s a lot to dislike about the Premiership gentleman I just think you’re pointing your bile in totally the wrong direction.

I think you've got this all wrong. These are all ardent Stokies who understand the psyche of our club. Their negative comments are secretly designed to spur us on to victories that are built on grit and bloody mindedness. Godd work lads, keep it up.

Carverdoone, if that’s your opinion I respect it and have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me at all. I certainly don't feel like a hypocrite for having expressed varying opinions this season. It has been an amazing season and overall one which will never be forgotten but there have also been moments when I wanted to bang my head against the wall in frustration I make no apologies for expressing both emotions.
Have I criticised the manager, damn right I have when things have got my blood boiling with strange selections and tactics in away games. I make no apology for those comments but if you are suggesting I have called for his head or simply slaughtered him without justification then I deny it completely. I have always tried to be constructive in any criticism when I have felt it was justified. It’s simply my opinion and if people don’t agree with me that’s fine.
Have I praised the manager, damn right I have because he has achieved amazing success which I admit freely I never believed he was capable of and the humble pie was the best meal I have tasted in years. I have said many times I hope he continues to confound everyone for many years to come. I will be forever grateful for what he has achieved and when he deserves the utmost praise I have willingly and happily done so.
If you have never criticised the manager then that’s amazing loyalty and I applaud you for it.
I have supported this club passionately for more years than I care to remember and will continue to do so through good and bad times and I will continue to give credit where it’s due and also vent when I feel frustrated beyond belief it’s all part of a supporters lot.
As for my multiple personalities, well we took a vote and we agreed they didn’t exist, only in my head and as I long as I have the casting vote I shall deny then till my dying day.

Peope are allowed to change their minds and to see both or changing sides of anyone.
No-one has (yet!) accused me of hypocrisy, perhaps because I came out into the open and justified it.
Example: PC. Years in the wilderness and gross stagnation, as a result of hanging on and then taking out the iniquitous Golden Share, thus preventing anyone of sound business mind from taking over the ownership of SCFC.
2007: Saw the light, even if maybe with an eye on future profit, and a chance to redeem himself. Turned the club around and marching towards paradise. Result: Deserved gratitude from myself and others.
We're finally all in this together - except for the few boo boys who attack their own players.

He ran up to him and hoofed the ball at him from point-blank range while he was rolling on the floor having been felled by Delap.
In mitigation, there was some previous by Wright-Phillips and, as any lip-reader can tell you, it wasn't personal because at the time he was saying "...and this is for your Dad".

ted I've been fortunate enough to read most of your poetry and normally be lifted by its resonance. In this post however you may have encapsulated with even more brevity and accuracy than usual a nation's opinion of Rafa Benitez:
a happy go lucky Spaniard in charge of the hubcap museum of the North West

As much as I admire your incredible flair for continuous prose Ted, I often simply cannot be arsed to read it all. So in the future, at the end, try to bullet point the key points of the piece for us simpler folk ;D
