After just listening to his interviews on 5live today, it seems the presenters, and indeed the nation is split on their thoughts on Gazza.
So whats it to be... Paul Gascoigne:
A. One of the most talented footballers to come out of England, a legend for various clubs and country, who has unfortunately struggled to cope with addiction, but a national hero who deserves the publics support to help him through.
B. A fat Geordie pisshead, who cant keep off the powder, and doesnt mind giving his missus a slap. Someone who had the world at his feet, and fucked it up bigtime. A complete tit who doesnt deserve another chance from a once adoring public, who to be quite honest, have had enough of his shite.

It's difficult to feel sympathy for someone who goes off the rails because they've got everything. It's his kids - particularly his little lad that I feel sorry for.

I don't know much about mental illness or alchoholism but I've heard enough people say they're illnesses in much the same way that cancer is.
Its sort of hard to understand why Gascoigne is so fucked up cos on the face of it he's got everything beautiful wife and kids the public adore(d) him and all the money he could wish for. Obviously something is sadly lacking somewhere for him to be so fecked up.
Its sad that he's ended up such a sorry mess and I hope he recovers but I doubt he will

I can't honestly see him ever being in much better shape than this, he's not just a pisshead like Huddy or George Best, they were wasters but bright sane blokes too. Listening to Gazza tonight I found myself thinking it's not the game and having it all that did this to him, he wasn't bright or perceptive to begin with and he's now showing major mental health problems, which the booze and drugs certainly aren't helping. I dearly hope I'm wrong but he's got to be a very high suicide risk.

Not as big a cunt as George Best, he has time to waste a liver yet though.
I do feel for Gazza but he doesn't help himself and it is a waste.

I don't see how anyone can honestly blame Gazza for his obvious mental health issues.
Take me for example....After two visits to my Consultant 'Shrink' he went missing ..........!
My god do I miss him.

There was a few things in his career that might have helped him. After Italia 90 Venables encouraged all his publicity bollox and he should have been focussing purely on football.
Overall though the nature of his condition suggests that in many repects it was pre determined he'd become a wreck.

I heard the interview on 5 Live with him,and yes although he was talking quite frankly about the problems & demons he has had, i agree with the fact that he has had 1,2,3...10,11 chances from people who have cared about him, and been concerned about him but each time Paul has thrown it back in their faces. The only person to blame is Gazza.
A talent who really should have been a whole lot more than he is.

It has to be A from me, I know partly how is feeling as I'm a recovering alcoholic , Doesnt matter how much help he gets from friends and family he needs to do it for himself first - then friends and family can help.
Alcoholism and mental illness are not nice things..
I hope he can help himself, then get the support after to keep him dry.

Massive shame, classic example of fame going to a persons head, I think, although I hate saying it, that if he had gone to Man Utd. Fergie might well have kept his feet on the ground. Look at how Beckham has dealt with extreme fame.

Gazza was a genius of his generation, there can be no denying that, everytime he got the ball for England you just knew something would happen.
However, he fucked it all up with his addictions, I want to say (A) but its sending me more towards (B). Such a shame.
