He's right to an extent though. Our transfers in the summer were a very mixed bag.
Spidey being Spidey, he can't resist a wind-up so he talks shit about Amdy, Etherington and Sorensen, which he can't really back up when challenged.
But he has a point - a lot of money has been spunked on some very ordinary players as well as the great signings of Sorro, Higgy, Abdy, Etherington and Beattie. Whether this was because he genuinely wanted them or because we couldn't attract anyone and panicked I don't know.
It'll be a test to see who we bring in over the summer, but assuming we stay up, I think things will be much better.

If he keeps us up he will have bought well enough, it looks like the Kitson money will come back and some of the others are young and have time to improve.
It we do stay up hopefully better players will want to come and we will only need two or three next season so he can focus on them.
Dont underestimate how hard it is to survive in this league . If we do it TP will be a legend of SCFC and rightly so.

You can always rely on Spiderman and Millermay to look at a sea of optimism and positivity and post something depressing or critical.
Same old same old....

A provocative thread this one - spidey got what he wanted - abit of attention - well done lad !
I hear tomorrow he's going to the seaside to push back the tide
i.e. a definite champion of truly lost causes, hopeless arguments and almost witless assertion and insinuation

I don't think even the brownest-tongued Pulis arselicker could deny that he made some shit signings in the summer though?
I would be a lot more confident of him spending well if we stay up, as like others have said, Pulis would be able to fish in a higher class pool, rather than gambling a couple of million here and there on championship players who are, in most cases, not good enough to make the step up.
If we can recoup even half the money that we spent on the likes of Tonge, Soares, Oli etc then Pulis will just have to put it all down as a learning experience and not go so berserk again.

yep he didnt spend every single penny wisely but as usual pulled some absolute diamonds out of the hat, right up to the 11th hour too
and, if he keeps us up - thats good enough for me !
if he doesn't - well, I've been royally entertained by the journey and will stick by them next season too !

He has spent a lot of money on 'squad fillers'. Unfortunately they haven't been good enough when called upon. The managers signed some dross but he has signed some crackers.
Next year he MUST address centre midfield. We are woeful in this area of the pitch.

Too many people smash the manager for signing Kitson. When he signed though it seemed inspired, £5.5m (with clauses) on a striker who had hit double figures for a relegated club, and he seemed to fit our style of play.
Thought Oli was a decent signing too, would like to see him back in the team.
It was obvious we needed to "fill out" the squad on promotion. This involves spunking money up the wall - look at Palace, Sheff Utd, Sunderland etc who all did the same on their promotion. Difference for us is that we had the hysteria after Derby failing and had it stuck to us. It took until January for it to die down and to get the real quality in.
Think too, we'll be surprised by what we attract if the mission of staying up is accomplished.

Pugsley has given TP a compliment ??? Not at all. He's doing his job mate. Signing good players to improve the team is what he gets paid for. I don't get caught up in the Pulis jizz fest when he does something he is supposed to do. There are credible arguments to be made that he has wasted a tremendous amount if money, especially if we are relegated.

The summer signings were, in the main, spectacularly awful and have had next to no impact. And it says it all that 8 of the starting XI yesterday were our C'ship battlers. Who, in the wildest dreams, thought on May 4th last year that would be the case?
We obviously really struggled to get the quality of players we wanted and ended up bringing in some real dross. But there's little excuse for the 2 most expensive signings in our history who were glaringly not a Pulis striker or a Pulis central midfielder on any level.
If we get the majority of the Kitson money back, we'll have got out of jail to a certain extent.
But the handful of genuinely excellent signings go a long way to evening the balance sheet. And the signings of Beattie and Etherington suggest that come January, we were fishing in a much better quality pond which bodes very well for us come the summer if we stay up.

Sure give him a pat on the back for securing Beattie but that has been his only real coup. All the others have been pretty predictable. He needs to spend better next season that's for sure. We also need some European scouting or we'll end up shelling out another £15million on rubbing rags.

Etherington might have been predictable but it's finally solved a problem we'd had for around five years.

I'm not sure Sorrensen is a coup - he has been unwanted for a few seasons at Villa, and IMO he's not that great. Capable of good saves but shockers as well. AF is a cracking signing but he's been a solid citizen for a few seasons now.

For a newly promoted side tipped to struggle to sign an established Prem team's first choice centre half is a decent achievement I'd have said. I think Sorensen's been excellent. All keepers drop the odd clanger and he's saved us far more often than he's cost us.

Soares, Tonge and Oli all made contributions to wins this year. Oil's goal v Arsenal Tonge's cross for Sidibie against West Brom Soares impact v Spurs at home All of these may prove to have been vital if we stay up. Never challenge a Rimmer to defend the cause Trousers If we stay up, and you look back over the season, I think one of the most interesting aspects will be how Pulis transitioned the squad in 10 months.

If we stay up he will deffo buy better. We had a go for players which were a bit above us which we needed to do and then went for plan b. No only have we learned from this season, if we stay up players will look at us without thinking we are 100% certs for the trap door

You can’t find a positive post because you haven’t looked very hard or you have trouble reading. I don’t hate anyone, I have on many occasions said I think Pulis should be given the opportunity to keep us in this league. I wouldn’t call a relegation scrap, without an away win all season a magnificent season. Being almost 6 foot tall and quite mature (obviously unlike you) and can enter into intelligent debate without resorting to abuse I never get picked on. So you see nothing you have just posted hold a single iota of fact (except in your disillusioned mind).

Its a fair question but better answered when we know our destiny....currently looks like the manager is in credit in his transfer dealings....some panic buys and clones of brickshithouse holding midfield players but some gems. But one area where he really has to show that he undestands the prem is to find some gems from Europe. It remains a mystery for me why we haven't found anyone since we were promoted in May....more than 50% of Prem transfers come from business done overseas. So why not us? And he has to accept we need a quality ball playing midfielde and he needs to break the bank to bring him in. But to answer the question...if we stay up yes
