It's still a very strange table isn't it? On the face of it you would think that Man City are virtually safe on 35 points yet Sunderland are still very much in the mix on 32. Yet by the end of tomorrow both teams could be on exactly the same points! If 40 points is indeed the target for safety then surely the fans of every team outside of the bottom three are going to be thinking that my team is probably going to be safe as they will all expect their teams to be able to achieve the two or three wins needed from the final eight to get them to that magical figure. A win against the Geordies will be massive!

Theres a long way to go....we are not safe. Anything can happen in this league. One game at a time. Cliches I know but we have to keep at it and get the points on the board, its looking better but its far from over, nothing is ever easy for Stoke City.

Brazil looks dead and buried now. Boro is having a small mountain to climb to survive as well. Plenty of teams "competing" for the last spot - we're within striking range of mid-table if the gods are kind to us. The remaining fixtures are crucial now and some teams have difficult times ahead - more difficult than us. If we can get a good result or two (or mayhap three?) out of our remaining games then we're safe.

It's looking increasingly likely that the number of points needed for survival is going to be one more than the total that Newcastle can get from their remaining games to add to the 29 that they already have. Chelsea (H) Stoke City (A) Tottenham Hotspur (A) Portsmouth (H) Liverpool (A) Middlesbrough (H) Fulham (H) Aston Villa (A) We might already be safe!!!

In all honesty it's difficult to see where they're going to pull six points out of that little lot.
It could be as low as 36 points for survival.
