Well hopefully that will put to bed the ludicrous statements about Rory bringing nothing to the team other than a throw in. Today we were rudderless and giving Boro the freedom of midfield until the point when Rory was moved inside and got snapping at the heels of the Boro midfield. Shawcross was clearly man of the match but Rory moving into his NATURAL and BEST position in the middle, turned the tide and helped drive us on and obviously what about that throw for the goal as well? Well played Rory.

Centre midfield for Rory. He looked so natural there when we had the ball and he closed down much higher up the pitch than Salif or Amdy.
Excellent move by TP to put him there and not bring Amdy on.

He hasn't got as far to go to take a throw from there.

Agree with the comments about Rory but I would question that it was an excellent move by TP as quite frankly its madness that he doesn't start in that role every week. Without any doubt in my mind he is our best central midfielder.

I hope Tone realises and keeps him there until the end of the season.

The cleverest footballer we have imo. He spots danger from a mile off and works his bollocks off.

Quite simply he has to play in the middle every week.

I don't disagree with anything on this thread. Rory is the best central midfielder at this club, full stop. His reading of the game, his intelligence on the football pitch - they're all top class. Hopefully this'll put an end to the dribbling retards who are desperate to drag him down because his long throw is anti-football and because when they didn't bother going to matches they used to say that he's only in the team for his throw and they want to sound clever.
Let's hope we stick with that second half midfield.

Whilst I never expect him to jink past three and smoke one into the top corner, Rory is actually our most driving, committed centre midfielder at the club. He will go forward with the ball more than any of our other central players and also cover more ground and break up more attacks. Lets hope it lesson learned, playing him wide means he's only really in the team for his throw. Play him in the middle and its a different kettle of fish entirely.

Problem TP has had is that neither Etherington or Lawrence have been fully fit (in his opinion -hard for anyone else to know) in the past and Delap really is our only other wide option as Tonge is clearly considered not up to the job. If you move Delap into the middle without Ethers and Lawrence you would end up with Olofinjana or the like out wide....
