If you watch what he does rather than following the ball you will notice the impact he has and how his game allows more freedom for the other players.

I think he's better at centre mid than on the wing. I'd say the defensive centre mid spot should be between him and Am Faye with him a slightly more attacking option than Amdy. I'd play Whelan in the other central midfield spot. I might play Delap and Amdy together if we were having probs hanging on to a lead at the end of a game.
I don't dislike Diao but I think (a bit like Griff) he is past his sell by date now - at least where the Prem is concerned.

i love the long throw but teams are to used to it now Bolton didn't seem too well-prepared. Against Everton Rory's throw won us a couple of corners in the first half.

For me it is a case of either play Rory in the middle or put him on the bench simple as that. I really don't think we should be playing him out wide. At Everton for example, (i don't wanna singling him out but we're talking about Delap!) what did he contribute to our game???
I know that his throws have been good to us this season but we can't use up a position, through which we are likely to attack. Which really isn't helping Higgy at left back (when Rory starts on the left) as he can't play a ball to feet as delap is so poor at control and/or beating his man, hence the usual HOOF!
I think he is a good player for us but feel he should play in the centre.

wembley??? He was wank art everton, slow, crap in posession of the ball and yeh his throws were crap aswell.
I would rather have him in the middle as the holding though other than that crock of shit Diao but certainly not on either wing when we have Lawrence and Ethers.Good post

I have sat and agreed with the ref's decision many times when the crowd have been calling for a different decision and also wondered why at times he has not given us a decision and there's barely any crowd reaction. I don't think we could field a team without a Diao/defensive midfielder, it's the way we play and I dare say we spend a lot of time in training working on that. I think Diao plays well and what he does seems to go unnoticed by a lot of fans. The same could be said of Sidibe - certainly last year when a lot of people were calling for him to be dropped. Pugh either of the Faye's or possibly Delap could play the role. If we could find a replacement centre back I would move Abdy into the role. But I still don't think Salif does a bad job especially on our smaller pitch.

I didnt see diao or faye in midfield slowing everything down and constantly giving the ball away. It was delap and whelan that got us up and won us plenty of games away from home, so do we really need diao?

Would you prefer carpet football, lots of passing and relegation?
It is how we play and we can be hard to beat. Get used to it.

I am used to it from last year when we had delap and whelan in centre-mid and were still hard to beat. So please explain why diao is needed in there

he plays rory simply for his long throw.dont get me wrong i love the long throw but teams are to used to it now silly statement no team can get used to it. unpredictable in my eyes. but i think more creativity is needed instead of hoping for throws all the time. hes a good player whos experience is vital in this run in. he should play, diao does what hes told to do, but i think delap could be just as useful. then when delap is throwing, maybe lawrence can just drift inside for him, simples really but i havent got my coaching badges nor have got a team into the premierleague

Unless you were attempting to replicate Isaac Newton's experiments on the eye last season, you'd know that Rory is probably our best central midfielder.
