STOKE star Matthew Etherington should be given a clean bill of health for Saturday's relegation showdown with Middlesbrough at the Britannia Stadium, despite a worrying injury scare for the reserves last night. Etherington was subbed during the first half of the 1-0 home defeat by Portsmouth after being caught on the ankle and requiring lengthy treatment. The former Spurs and West Ham winger eventually returned to the pitch, but was withdrawn shortly afterwards to prevent any further damage.
Oh dear lets hope its not serious.

last thing we need now is to lose him... we just got him back from his banned and it would be a right kick in the nads to lose him to injury

It was a crunching tackle on the half way line. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was deliberate. I don't understand why we played Etherington- it was a disaster waiting to happen.

It would be a big loss for us as he brings so much more to the team.I hope he will be passed fit as i think we will need him for the borough match as its make or break imo.

I can see we wanted to get him playing matches again but everyone knows he is 1st seed at Stoke.
Delaps a great player but for me he's not the pacy winger we were all praying for before we got Ethers.

The longer report on the Sentinel site quotes Mark O'Connor as saying he'd be very surprised if Etherington wasn't fit for Saturday.

He did have lengthy treatment on the pitch but when he came back on he looked ok wasnt hobbling and was running fine, seems to me it was a precaution.

I would have though he would be more inclined to play him away, unless delap plays CM. But now Glenns a favored CM they need a DM? M?

Im also praying Matty Lad.
Was a hard tackle, and he came off and straight down the tunnel, whilst going off he didnt look like he suffered any effects from it, walking normal etc.

nail on head - Ethers and Lennie MUST start I agree but i cant see it to be honest, delap wiil start RM with whelan and Diao CM and Ethers LM. Its a shame as we will miss liams dead ball delivery but i cant see TP starting without a holding CM

...but i cant see TP starting without a holding CM Agreed, although Rory can do a decent job in that role. He and Glenn were partners in the middle at the back end of last season.
