I've just been sorting out my old programmes and came across a SPOTLIGHT interview with big Dennis in the Stoke v Swansea League 1 match from 17th October 1981. Some of his answers will surprise a few I reckon. Name: Denis Smith (no shocks there) Birthplace : Meir, Stoke-on-Trent Birthday: 19th Nov Height: 6'0" (I thought he was 6'2" as the song goes) Weight: 13 st 1 lb Previous Clubs: None Favourite Other Ground: Highbury, Arsenal (????) Favourite Other Sport: Cricket Favourite Holiday Resort: South of France (Bit poncy for our Den) Favourite Film: Blazing Saddles Favourite Newspaper: Daily Express (shocker for the staunch labourites on here) Favourite Singer: Rod Stewart Biggest Influence On Career: My Father Harry Gregg Likes: Reading ,any sport, Travel Dislikes: Shaving, Bad Weather, Being Late for anything (apart from tackles hey Den? ) Most Memorable Match: 1972 League Cup Final (No shocker there) Favourite Childhood Hero: Duncan Edwards, Man Utd ( Some on here will say you are not a proper Stokie now Dennis) Secret Ambition: To be leader of the Conservative Party ( Old Stokie will hang himself when he reads this gem) Which Person would you like to be if you were not yourself: Quite Happy being myself ( and so are we Dennis) A legend and a Tory legend at that, nice one Dennis ;D H So Dennis Smith loves Manure and Arsenal , votes Tory , reads the Express and holidays in the South of France. Some posters on here will be apoplectic ;D ;D ;D

Secret Ambition: To be leader of the Conservative Party ( Old Stokie will hang himself when he reads this gem) You can only conclude that he wanted to be leader in 1981 because like most decent people, he was praying that Thatcher bitch would die?

I remember the 72 mag they brought out - most of the players put shaving as one of their dislikes.
Razor's have come a long way since then!

It's like finding an explicit text on my lady's phone from Tony Scholes. I'm inconsolable.

Well my opinion of him has got even better.
A great footballer and obviously not one of the thicko types that think if you are working class you should vote Labour.
Quality Sir Denis its just a shame you came up against the greatest Tory person of the twentieth century in your political career

Just imagine if Labour had been in power in the 80s we may not still have the flourishing Pottery, Coal, Tyre and Steel industries on which our City depends and which the Tory Government did so much to defend.

London's not that funny, it can be quite a depressing place unless you benefited from the vile Tory policies of the 80s and 90s.

You could come back to Stoke and work in one of the glorious labour driven mobile phone call centres. Maybe Cauldwell will see you personally! H

I could also work in that low paid, sweatshop, on-line bookies run by the family of another prominent local celebrity

Yeh I suppose the awful Tory government of the stone ages destroyed the rubbing sticks together industry! Geordie Newcastle depended on mining but when we no longer needed the coal the city moved on and as a result the magnificent heroic Maggie the great has helped improve what used to be a depressing area into a thriving one! I guess that what capitalism is all about making stuff or providing services that people actually want! Even dimwit Brown and bLiar cottoned on to the idea, they were just pretty crap at developing it!
