Former Blackpool favourite Alan Suddick has died at the age of 64.
The England under-23 international inside-right lost his fight against cancer after four weeks in hospital battling myloma.
Former Blackpool captain Jimmy Armfield told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Fans always liked Alan. He was a good lad, he smiled his way through life.
"I've been most weeks to see him since December, it was remarkable how well he was handling it."
Suddick joined Blackpool from Newcastle in 1966 for a then-club-record £63,000 and went on to make more than 300 appearances for the club in 10 years.
He was part of the team that won promotion to the First Division in 1970 and played a prominent role in the club winning the Anglo Italian Cup in 1971.
Armfield said: "The modern game would have suited him. It's not as tough today in my opinion.
Pay tribute to Suddick "People used to come in from behind and tackle you and knock you around and the referees weren't as severe then so consequently it would have suited him."
After leaving Blackpool, Suddick had short spells with Stoke, Southport and Bury before managing Barrow on a part-time basis.

Anyone else remember his spell with us?
He joined us in a minor clamour of excitement from Blackpool in the January of the 76/77 Waddington/Eastham relegation season.
A decent player woefully past his prime from what I remember.
RIP Alan.

Was a really good player, but as you say past his best, but by no means woefull. I'd equate him with someone like Carrick today, similar sort of player. Makes you feel old when the players you remember are popping off.

Always reminded me of Geoff Hurst when we got him, a good player in his day but well past his sell by date when we got them, if we had these boards in them days Suddick would have been a present day Cressy !! Absolute shite for us but it wasnt his fault, RIP Alan Suddick

Being an only child I used to play Subbuteo matches against myself which therefore required me to be my own commentator .
During one game I shouted out 'Suddick' and my Mum hit me because she thought I'd sworn 'Sod it'.
RIP Alan

I saw him make his debut for us away at West Brazil during our relegation season. He scored for us in a 3-1 defeat. The other notable event that day was that my mates car caught fire on the way back and we had to bail out on the M6.
About the same time we also bought John Tudor in a desperate attempt to avoid the drop. He also scored two on his debut (at home to Ipswich 2-2 draw I seem to remember) but didn't score again for for the rest of the season and down we went.

I remember him has being a classy player, who could put his foot on the ball, with good passing skills.
something we could do with now....

In fairness we only paid Blackpool twelve thousand pounds for him.
I recently spent that much on some shutters for the house!

NB I know one should never speak ill of the dead but I think one or two of you are remembering Suddick as he was sold to us the fans rather than on the basis of anything we actually saw on the pitch.
He only played 9 times for us before we shipped him off to Southport.
It didn't of course stop us making a similarly idiotic signing the following season of another formerly classy player again well past his "best by" date in Alec Lindsey!

In the Tudor debut game Tudor scored twice in the first few minutes and we went on to win 2-1. Tudor did score one more goal for us. Suddicks goal against West was in his second last game for us, not his first. Apart from that tou are pretty much spot on (though I can't comment on the fire). ;D The only thing I remember about Suddick was he was magnificent for us in the 3-3 draw against Man Utd at the Vic.

Plenty of memories of Alan Suddick. He was signed to replace Huddy and played the game in a similar way. He had plenty of skill and liked to dictate the tempo. Was a little slow at Stoke, but we were in real trouble when he came and relegation was not his fault.
The 3-3 draw with ManU was a good game, as we came back from behind. I seem to remember 2 of the ManU goals towards the Stoke End looked a mile offside.
Alan Suddick really turned back the clock that night and his passing is a loss not only to his family but to those who liked to see football played properly.

Very sad news, we used to call him the "persil kid" due to the fact that no matter how muddy the pitch at the Vic was, he never seemed to get his kit dirty.
RIP Alan.

RIP to an ex-Stokie
£12,000 - that is correct for the fee we paid
The man could take a free kick as well

I do remember Alan and, as has been said, he was well past his best. John Tudor was a fantastic player at Newcastle and I was really excited when we signed him, particularly after I saw his debut. Now I admit that my memory is not the best but, as I recall, he played very few games for us and was quickly flogged off to a Belgian? club. Lindsey was awful.
RIP Alan.

His kit dazzled throughout the game. He was also well tanned and seemed to be somehow separated from everyone else on the pitch. Sad news of his passing.
