Even if we stay up, there will be a good handful of clubs in a better position than us, with more money than us, looking for a top-class CB...got to be a worry that someone turns his head? I'd say he's probably our only player that better Prem clubs would be interested in. Or will our crap goal difference be enough to fool clubs into thinking he's rubbish...?

I've no doubt that fat Sam will make a move. Wouldn't be too worried if it was Blackburn. Can't see them "blowing us out of the water" money-wise, and would it be any more attractive a proposition than us for Abdy? Was thinking more along the lines of Wigan, Spurs or even Villa tbh.

Is he really that good. There semed to be miles of space between the centre backs on Saturday and Everton in the first half walked through the centre of our defence. That said I don't think Salif played very well in front of the back four. I don't really understand what Mr Pulis sees in him. He was a liability mistiming tackles in dangerous positions. From the little I have seen, Danny Pugh is a better bet, more mobility. IMHO Abdy is a competent centre back but not as good as either Smith or Bloor or Watson or Overson.

I agree with tqstokie, he's good, but he's not *that* good. He's generally excellent, but he does make mistakes and it's not all that uncommon for him to be out-paced (as at Blackburn) or out-muscled (as at Sunderland). He's been about in the PL for a good while now; managers know about him.
He's brilliant for us, but, at 31, a much bigger club is unlikely to come in for him.

Overson was an excellent 2nd and 3rd tier Centre Half but never played in the top division. Abdy Faye is by FAR a superior to Overson in all aspects - his ball playing ability as a CB is up there with the best. My thoughts however about Abdy Faye is he should be doing the Diao role in CM and Higginbotham should be moved in to the centre and Kelly put in LB (why have we signed him?). CM is supposed to be his best position and the one that Fat Sam played him in at Bolton.

I'm guessing premiership managers and scouts will be looking a little deeper into things than the teams overall goal difference before picking a target ;D

Depends on how teams play , he is a great player but not the quickest so it suits him that we do not hold a high defensive line, so hopefully we can keep him . I can see why he would struggle at times in the Newcastle side as Keegan would have the defence pushing up and then he would be exposed by the quick forwards, we play a lot deeper so he does not struggle in our side

I think we should worry more about someone like Everton or Villa tapping up Shawcross. Abdy has done well but I think some of our supporters have rose tinted glasses when it comes to him. Would you buy an ageing "average" Prem centre back or Ryan whose star is definitely on the up?

He`s as good a CB as a club like ours could hope to have. He`ll leave if we drop, but stay if we don`t. He`s 32 now so not going to attract the attention of any clubs bigger than us

the only club he would leave us for is a club in the north-west as that was the reason for him moving to us so that narrows it down to teams like everton, blackburn, wigan and bolton
and hasnt he even said that he wouldnt mind staying here if we got relegated as he's enjoying playing here and enjoying the rampant he has struck up with the fans

Im amazed at how many people seem to be underestimating the big man on this thread. I think he has been fantastic this season and his distribution from the back is great, and you can see Ryan has gained plenty of experience from playing alongside him.
I would be more worried about Ryan leaving as the new fifa 6+5 rule wiil make any decent english CB very valuable and our Ryan looks a bit better then average!

Some of the comments on this thread are bizarre. How can anyone rate Abdy as average after the season he's had? He's clearly one of the very best Stoke players of recent times.

My thoughts however about Abdy Faye is he should be doing the Diao role in CM and Higginbotham should be moved in to the centre Don't thnik that's a good idea really, at home the current back for as it is are working, don't see any real reason to tinker with that - he's the main man organising the defence so he should stay there - if diao is playing poorly then amdy faye is there to replace him.

Abdy could teach Lawro a thing ot two.
He has been class this season and the combination that he , ShawX and Tommo have created has been invaluable. I'd also add Diao sitting in front of ShawX and Abdy as being very influential in enabling the CB's to be as commanding as they have been.
