Both goals yesterday were caused from fairly basic errors by Sorenson. He did the same at Villa and and I can count on two hands other conceded goals throughout the season which other keepers may have saved. Sorenson has good positional sense and is excellent at coming for crosses. Simonsen on the other hand is a better shot stopper. Sorenson's confidence must be fairly low at the moment and maybe he doesn't inspire a great level of confidence in his defence. Is it time to give Simmo a run?

Dunna worry Dan. He's a good keeper who had a bad day.
Keepers at other clubs ALL make mistakes through the season but we don't notice them so much.

simmo deserves a chance, tommy has been awful the last 2 away games, yesterday cost us big time, and at villa he let a routine save fly past him. give simmo his chance now and see if he grasps it, with 9 games to go simmo could end up being a hero

deano:
I like Simmo and mI appreciate all he's done at this club.
However:
He was replaced last season (in the CCC) by 2 much older keepers who are best their best. Admitedly one was recalled after 1 game but the other one was largely instrumental in our promotion.
Not being funny mate but their WAS a good reason why they were signed.
Like I said, I like Simmo and I rate him and I wouldn't be upset if he was between the sticks when I turn up at the Brit. But I honestly thin Tommy is better.

doz so what you think we should do then allow sorenson to carry on in this current form and keep allowing soft goals in? or take a gamble and let simmo see if he can stand upto the plate? dont forget last season when he had his dip, he played for nearly 2 seasons going without a rest, i think it was complacency, simmo has always been great for us, i think he deserves his opportunity in trying keep this team up, especially as sorenson is awful at the minute

Away from home Sorensen needs to buck his ideas up somewhat. At Sunderland, Villa and yesterday he's been at fault for a goal or two.
And .. in reality, they should have capitalised on another mistake he made yesterday.

deano:
It's tricky mate!
The big problem with Simmo previously was his lack of command of the area and, although I agree with you that it might be time to take action, it would be a slight concern that there would be (even more) chaos in the box.
Personally I think we should keep faith with the guy who has served us well for the most part this season and give him the support he has earned at this 'sticky' period for him.
I know some would say it could cost us our place in the Prem but others would say the same if we put Simmo in and got relegated.
Tough decision mate and I'm glad I haven't got to make it or answer for the consequences.

I still wish we had of signed a certain goalkeeper sitting on the bench for everton yesterday.
Wigan only wanted 300K

That's what I was alluding to earlier. He did a fantastic job for us and Everton would have no hesitation in putting him in if necessary.
It's more of a gamble for us because we felt the need to replace Simmo with an ageing keeper even when we were in the CCC.
I hate to say these things because I love Simmo but you can't get round it.

Exactly.
If you put simmo and sorro together, you would have a top draw keeper.
However ones strength is the others weakness

finger pointing is easy where keepers are concerned since mistakes of theirs often result in goals. I believe Soro has undoubtedly been fantastic for us and rather than find fault in his keeping ability, we should maybe look at why he having to makes so many saves! Are the back 4 doing enough to keep the ball out of the box? Bad days happen for all players but these are often cushioned by other surrounding players. Look at Van der Sar yesterday. He often has nothing to do all game due to his defence but had a mare yesterday....it happens. Soro kept 22 shots out at Anfield...we need longer serving memories, i think

The way some people are talking you'd think Simmo was a crap keeper and that's far from the truth. Sorenson has become something of a flapper recently and is not instilling much confidence in his defence.....he's still a good goalie mind.....and I think Simmo should be given a chance for a few games.

Remember that if we invite pressure onto us on such a regular basis by our style of play, then the chances are by he law of averages, someone will make a mistake close to our own goal, and that it will be costly. Yesterday, was Sorro's turn, Shawcross and others have had their turn. Sorro has saved us many points this year. It is not all the goalkeepers fault , it is our style of play as well i.e inviting pressure. Players are not robots.

spitthedog:
I agree with you that players make mistakes when they are constantly under pressure and I can't get too upset with any of them. But I belreve that most of the pressure we get is a combination of:
A. Our opponents are usually (at least) a little better than us at winning the midfield battle and, beeing at home, they expect to beat us and apply pressure right from the kick off.
and
B. Our defenders, and Centre Midfielders inability to find their own men. Wilco, Higgy and Salif are all guilty of very poor distribution and we have very few in the side that can hold the ball up and retain posession for more than a few seconds. That it why Mama is an automatic choice for TP (although he didn't hold the ball up nearly as well as he can yeaterday).
I don't blame those players mentioned and I give them all my full support, but they do have shortcomings and I believe this costs us much more than any tactical decisions. Tommy has done great this season for the most part and, to be fair, they've all done a decent job. We need to just keep faith with them (we have no other real choice).
Mayf: I don't know anyone who thinks Simmo is a crap keeper. I think he is very popular but you can't get away from the fact that TP saw fit to replace him last season with a goalkeeper that was/is well past his best. I love the guy but there's no escaping the truth.

"Sorro has saved us many points this year."
Come on then spit list the the number of points he has saved us this year.
Apart from a slightly above average game against Bolton when he tipped one over the bar I can't remember the last time re made a "top drawer" save.

The lad had ONE bad day, if we had Simmo out there this season, I think we'd be stuffed.
Sorro has done a fantastic job for us this season and I wouldnt want to see anyone else between the sticks.
Would you rather we have one of Englands finest, Carson?
