www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/sport/Crewe-Alex-Gradi-set-meet-Holland-talks/article-770202-detail/article.htmlThe SentinelDARIO Gradi believes former coach Steve Holland's appointment at Stoke could yet pose a threat to Crewe's youth recruitment. Holland accepted the Potters' offer to take over their Academy nearly four months after being relieved of his first-team management duties at the Alex. But Gradi is due to meet Holland tomorrow to thrash out a gentleman's agreement about youth recruitment policies. Both Stoke and Crewe scour the North Staffs and South Cheshire areas for talent, but on Gradi's admission in recent times it has been the Alex who have been poaching promising youngsters from Stoke's set-up. Young footballers can choose to move to different Academies at fixed ages until they sign scholarship forms at 18 and clubs are powerless to prevent them, although they do receive small compensation figures. "Steve did speak to Frank Arnesen at Chelsea, but he didn't come up with a concrete offer, so he has a living to make," pointed out Crewe's technical director. "I have a high regard for him and regard him as a friend. "He'll be a threat to us because of his ability. He's a good coach and he is good with the kids. "To be honest we are poaching Stoke's kids at the moment if anything, but hopefully Steve and I can come to an agreement. We are in a good position to withstand competition from anybody for our young players." Gradi joined Gujdon Thordarson on the top table at Crewe's annual meeting and was quick to lavish praise on the new manager's tactical revamp which has proved such a success. Thordarson's preference during Crewe's recent good run for a back line of three centre-halves was a system he used at Stoke and during his time in charge of the Icelandic national side. "Gudjon has come up with a different way of playing that I wouldn't have come up with. It has proved very effective and you have to give Gudjon credit for that," said Gradi,

Not quite sure what there is to talk about. At last Stoke have fully woken up to the fact that nurturing your own local talent can have massive benefits in the future and a big well done to the chairman for providing the necessary finance.
I'm sure that traditionally the set-up at Crewe has been so good with Steve Holland in charge that youngsters from the immediate local area and north west of England saw attaching themselves to Crewe as a massive opportunity.
With the attraction of a Premiership club, state-of-the-art facilities and a top coach, all that will inevitably change.
