WD,
I'm not saying Pulis is all bad, you know my opinions on him vary, like most on here.
What he has done however is spend huge quantities of money on players who WE ALL KNEW would not suit either him, or his style of play, so why buy them? Tonge is a footballing central midfielder, as is Olofinjana, despite his size. Pulis doesn't buy footballers for the middle of the park, ostensibly he looks for workhorses. Daveis & Kelly were brought in to cover positions we were already very strong in, and Soares was clearly a panic purchase, christ, he was on the bench for Charlton last week. And Kitson is an intelligent footballer, the type who likes the ball to feet or crossed in from the wings. We do neither, so why the fuck buy him?
Kitson as i said isn't bathed in success in his time at Stoke. But frankly if you're not getting a gameahead of Richard fucking Cresswell, your head would drop as well.

Amusing to see that for this matter, that the 'blame culture' in Stoke upon Trent has now spread to our manager on this thread
now WHO would've possibly imagined that happening eh ?

If we get most of our money back then Pulis has gotten out of jail, no doubt about it but the propensity for some to look for any excuse to defend the horrendous Kitson is bewildering.

Kitson has been done no favours by the management, that can't be argued. Saying that he doesn't appear to have the bottle for a fight. That's not good for someone looking to get in the side let alone for a team trying to avoid the drop. Basically he came to 'little' Stoke thinking he would play every week without question. Sorry Dave you were wrong.
I'd be amazed if we get our money back. I would snap their hands off if someone offered £4million.

Agree with last post, he's a good player who was universally hailed a sa good signing when he came. It didn't work out and he lost heart, which I can certainly relate to in my own job. I wish him well.

Some of you really are pathetic. It doesn't seem 2 minutes ago that Kitson was being hailed as the new messiah, I've never seen such hype over a signing, and now you talk of him as though he's the shit on your shoes. Some incredibly juvenile and thoughtless comments on this thread. Kitson has been a disappointment for you, but he doesn't deserve this crap, some of you need to grow up. jimmy bullard

I have been party to several of his 'performances' SS and he was shit. You only have to look at James Beattie's form, attitude and general demeanour to realise just how shit he is/was for us. You have the Pulis tolerating jizzsacks, making excuses for him but the facts remain the same. We are all Reading fans now. James Beattie has been great, but his signature coincided with the signing of a player who is capable of carving out chances for him, 2 of his goals have been set up by Etherington, and also the return to form of Glenn Whelen, Kitson mainly played in a team with no attack minded midfield, no proper wingers to supply crosses. Yes, Kitson should have done better, but there are some reasons for his failure, not all of them his fault, most strikers would have struggled to score under the same circumstances, I can only think of one clear cut chance he was given in his whole time at stoke, and it' basic common sense that if you're not creating chances, then how is he supposed to score ?.

Without stating the obvious he really needed a goal. How different would it have been if he had just hit the onion bag early doors (ie. Pompey away springs to mind). Beattie has hit the ground running but was already buzzing after goals for the Blades this season. Confidence breeds confidence and Kitson, i'm sure, will hit plenty more once he is off the mark.

Couldnt agree more, any striker movng to a new club needs an early goal to get his confidence high and then he can build on that. As you rightly said Beats got this and hasnt looked back but beats has has ethers crossing the ball for him, something Kits never had and would have thrived off. He will score goals for Reading and hopefully that will mean a we get a bigger fee for him but some of the "hes a useless ginger cunt" comments are an absolute disgrace

Ricardo Fuller cost less than £500,000 and with the temperament of a firework managed 6 under similar circumstances. As RAF said, different players, Fuller is a unique striker, some of his goals he creates himself. And I'm not saying he is totally blameless, sometimes his attitude didn't seem right, but there are other factors, such as the ones I previously pointed out, that have come into play, it's not just down to him being "shit", because he wasn't shit at Reading, he didn't just become shit over night. Look at the midfield he was operating in front of for the majority of his games, add this to the fact he was asked to play the second striker/extra midfield role for many of his games, it's probably no wonder he become frustrated, we only really created chances from Delaps throws, so he was basically feeding on scraps hoping for a second ball here and there. It's a tough job being a striker under TP, not all are suited to it, I'm glad now we have beattie, because he is suited to it and now we have the added bonus of proper wingers and a central midfield player who is getting forward more, which we never had when Kitson played.

i think RAF hit the nail on the head there. Kitson is a completely different type of player and i think that was the problem (this is probably where RAF doesn't agree) as for whatever reason i just think Kitson is not the type of player for the way we play football. I never saw the fuss when we bought him as it was obvious he wasn't our kind of player as he isn't just a "hoofball" (to coin a cliche) kind of player. My mate came with me to the Bolton game last week and pointed out how little time the ball spent on the deck and that style although not attractive suits our style and the players we came up with but it's just not Kitson's style at all. When we finally did get players like Ethers in and Lenny back it was too late to risk givng Kitson a chance due to the position we were in. I'm not a massive fan of Kitson and i do agree that his heart wasn't really in it (i think he just saw us as a shop window for the Prem) but the hatred is a bit over the top. Even if you think he didn't deliver the goods it's not as if he's been sat around for years underachieving is it. Good luck to him at a club where he may fit in better both with the style of play and where the fans aren't quite so vitriolic towards him when at the end of the day it was simply bad business/management by TP that caused the problem NOT Kitson.

We all wanted things to work out for Kitson...but it became apparent quite soon that he was looking for excuses not to be here and his refusal to shake hands after being substituted, warming up on his todd etc etc were signs of things to come and some people came on here and said so at the time and were slaughtered for it... All this bollox about it being Pulis' fault for not playing Dave in the 'right system' and 'not having enough games' is the kind of total crap spewed out by PHW's on Praise 'n' Grumble where you need an Honours Degree in stupidity to take part... Well now Daves back where he belongs and I hope and pray that he stays there... Dave Kitson NEVER A Stokie.. Waste of space

In spite of all his mitigating circumstances, most of which are valid to an extent, clearly Mr Kitson's comments about all the different aspects of his game, "I'm more than a target man" etc have been found out - he's clearly a lot more one dimensional than he'd like to think, hence the fact that he has completely failed to shine without service at Stoke. Judging from his time at Stoke, I'm inclined to edit his comments to "I'm little more than a box man", but then i have seen him score quite a few goals for reading that were by no means tap ins.
I'm not convinced he was as lazy as people make out, to be honest I'd much rather see my strikers walking than running around headless chicken style (ala cresswell) if it means they are going to be in position when it counts.
I gave up on him at the time of the liverpool game when he was persistently reluctant to get into the box when he really needed to be busting his arse to get in there to meet the crosses of etherington - i'm sure the reason he wasn't getting in there was that he was so low on confidence that he was shit scared of missing a chance.
Best of luck to you at Reading, Dave.

Kitson deserves everything he gets. He is big headed and bone idle. Had we persevered with him we would undoubtedly be relegated . Had we played him until he scored, then we would be playing an old age pensioner.
This was a signing made with good intent. However, I feel that for Kitson, he signed 'on the rebound'. His first love, Reading, had let him down by being relegated and he leaped into the arms of the first admirer to show an interest. As we all know this is a recipe for disaster.
Almost from day 1, Kitson realised his mistake and became a sulky, disinterested individual.
It is a fact that he is the most costly false signing in the club's history.
To blame TP shows the dangerous state of mind of some posters on here. We all thought Kitson to be a fine signing when he first came. The reason it didn't work was down to Kitson himself and no one else.
