i don't mean to be negative, far from it but can we just relax on the "staying up" stuff just for now , its not that i don't believe that we can secure ourselves in the league, i just feel as if we're jinxing ourselves a bit early
the reason we all hate hull so much is because they were blowing their own trumpet saying they would be in europe this time about 5months ago.
we just need to call for a bit of perspective, lets not get carried away with ourselves until we're safe. then we have the right to mouth off about how incredible we are.
its a tough game against everton but then its a tough game against everyone, i think the last week proves that the side can take anyone if they play to their limits, and thats what they've got to do to get over the line.
but just for now can we please keep all optimism as 'quietly confident' please. the very first thing i thought this morning was that lawrenson and shearer gave us the kiss of death last night, so lets not just get too ahead of ourselves just yet

yes, i've got to agree, but it's looking a lot more positive now, you've got to agree. everton is a tough one, and we don't have a good record against them, but we do have a chance this time around, especially with their key midfielder out, we just need to keep tabs on tim cahill.

I'm nervous as hell. I refused to sing we are staying and I refuse to get all smug until we're safe and no-one can take it away. Then again I am a pessimistic cunt when it comes to all things Stoke City

oh yes its looking brilliant i think this time a week ago it was all looking quite grim but they've proved to me that they've got enough to be in this league its just a matter of keeping it together

Er basically, No...I think is the answer to your question. We can't tone our optimism down! Did Churchill ever say.."Oh...erm...hang on a moment...we may not be able to beat these Nazi chaps? No! He said "we will fight the bastards on the beaches" (or words to that effect). And guess what...we won. It's not a time for faint hearts. It's a time for confidence and transmitting that confidence to the players. We are the 12th man don't forget!

Strangely, I agree with both Tree and Jim????
We should be confident and positive.
BUT
There is a thin dividing line between positivity and cockiness. I have to agree a little with the Hull analagy.

Strange that you have a user name "staying up for tree" and you ask your fellow fans to ease up on the staying up stuff!!
We aren't being arrogant, we are (rightly in my opinion) allowing ourselves to hope that we will stay up after seeing improvements in play, improvements in results, a superb home record (the 7th best in the league) and (perhaps surprisingly) finding ourselves with the in form striker in the Divison and a stack of other players who are showing some great form.
With all that positive stuff going on, there would be something wrong with us if we didn't allow ourselves to have a bit of optimism.

yes i do realise the irony of the username and then asking people to calm down:) i just think we need to keep our feet on the ground a bit, like it has already been said.there needs to be optimism without it becomming arrogance

I think the newly found excitement about staying up is GREAT. Did we ever truly dare to believe that we could realistically stay up? Not until Beattie and Etherington came in did I have anything other than a slim hope that Rory's long throws might sneak us enough pts at home to stay up. However, Pulis has created a team that has enough quality, creativity and goals to go with the seemingly unending heart they have as a group, which gives tremendous hope to all. Positivity is a good thing. What we do need to do is calm down if we lose a couple, and not start hammering Pulis.

Concur 100% Stay behind the team and COACH through the ups and downs. When in doubt sing louder. This team won't quit and is going to do whatever it takes to stay up.

i'm not sure comparisons with churchill's speech are that clever, as it was the yanks and russians that won the war, not us, not by a bloody long shot!
That said in all honesty, I think the only way we won't stay up is if we cock it up. It's in our hands now.

Using that analogy, we could say it is the Senagalese, Danish, Irish etc helping us try to win the fight

The fact that we can believe is, well, unbelievable, never back down and if you believe in "jinxing" I think your in the wrong game mate!
I know your saying, It could come back to haunt us at the end of the season, leaving us completely gut wrenchingly devestated. It's just another reason why we love this club, through the good and the bad.

I just wish we'd had a longer run with Etherington, Beattie and Camara in the squad with Lawrence fit and Fuller not suspended. With all of those available all season we'd be safe as houses by now. Question is, do we have long enough to rack up some points? Without further injuries or suspensions I think we do.
