There was something different about last night, a feeling that suddenly we had discovered the key that unlocks the door and I really feel optimistic about the next few months. The difference for me was seeing players in their correct positions and seeing a real balance to the side something that has been sadly missing. It seems the penny may finally have dropped with the manager if you play the best available eleven and play them in their natural positions you get a convincing all round display and the players seem at ease in what they are doing.
The two forwards in the second half caused problems both mobile and a a goal threat which is exactly what we need from here on in, home and away. The midfield looked creative and not just functional as it normally does with two holding players together. Glen Whelan finally seems to be settling into his position and for the first time in a long while we had a central midfielder who could not only work hard but who could dictate play and pick a pass he has to have cemented his place in the side from here till May, it’s just a question of who plays the anchor alongside him. That will be a difficult decision for the manager but that’s why he’s paid so much to make those difficult choices. It’s exciting with Mattie to come back and Liam starting to look more comfortable we have creativity to go with the graft.
It’s amazing at 3-45 on Sunday afternoon we looked a ship without a rudder a side destined for a fast return to the Championship unless something changed, well it did and the manager realized or at least admitted he was at fault and what’s more he changed it rather than sitting there hoping for something to drop for us or complaining about the disparity between the two sides. He took a chance and whether by accident or design he seems to have unlocked the door to survival and found us a side who not only look like a Premiership side but who seem comfortable in their new positions and have given everyone a huge lift. Please
Tony now you’ve found the keys don’t tamper with the side unless there’s injuries or suspensions because we look a threat and if you allow the side to perform like that home and away I really do think we can survive and comfortably.
Well done Tone and well done to the side a complete performance last night and lets hope for many more like it from now till May because if they do we’ll be celebrating another season in the Premiership and with added quality in the summer maybe something even better in years to come.
I am not counting my chickens been here too many times for that but it does your heart good to see a team laid out as a team round pegs in round holes and boy can’t wait for Everton.
