Hi all, Its been a while now since we scored from a Rory throw. These are a few issues I have noted: 1) Teams now seem more adapt in defending the set-piece. 2) Goalies are blatently leaning forward on our strikers and as a consequence referees, no matter what the instance is are blowing the whistle. (Case in point yesterday). Apart from this, yesterday I was impressed by the committment and spirit shown. Well done every one, including the supporters. Come On Potters!!!

arent we classing fullers goal last night as a goal from a rory throw? its the throw that contributes to the havoc that led to it.

I think the pressure that Rory's throws can create justify persevering with the tactic. Often they lead to another throw, a corner - generally just pinning a team back for a period that builds our forward momentum. They also get the crowd going, thats no bad thing.
I'm not convinced that teams have sussed the throw. I think the flurry of goals scored from them created an expectation that we could score from one a game, that was never going to happen. I also think that the wetter ball has reduced its effectiveness, on dry days it does always seem more lethal. So let hope for a more directly productive period in spring!

We need to direct the throw to outside the 6 yard box - anything inside and the keeper catches it. Just outside and all you need is a little flick-on and Bob's yer uncle.

You're right, because now we're just giving the ball away when it's so close to goal. As you say throw it further away from the goal, and a flick-on can create chances. If it's done as it is at the moment, I see no point in long throws.

I still think the long throw is a potent weapon as other have said it creates pressure and at home it also cranks up the atmosphere...teams have been defender it better but not 100%. I have also noticed a few refs are being showing extra favour to the goalkeepers...I think it was shawx who was penalised at a long throw simply for standing still!!
