Just come back from the game, superb performance from the lads. We looked incredibly dangerous going forward, for once we knocked the ball about very well, and this took the pressure off the defence. Meaning when Bolton did come forward we dealt with it well. My question is this...
When Etherington returns, is there a place in the starting 11 for Rory Delap??
I mean, he is a quality player. but you have to say, with the preferred midfield of Lawrence, Whelan, Diao/Faye, Ethers, should we try and fit him in just for his long throw??
Discuss.

TP will drop Lenny and Rory will play on the right. (especially away from home)
rory lil-faye wheelo ethers
rory's throws and his effort about the pitch is one reason why we looked far more solid (in defense and going forward) today (tonight). He helps us keep the pressure on the opposition. And Pulis will play ethers (he can beat his man, Lenny - even with how well he played tonight - can't)

On todays performance i'd rather Rory than Liam.

Suspect Andy's right, with Lenny to come off the bench after 60 minutes maybe? But then we'll be lucky to keep the first choice 4 fit for every game.
Lil Faye is WELL ahead of Salif for me now in that role.

I think there's a place for Ethers and Lenny, Whelan and Rory in the middle, drop Diao/Lil Faye, and the same back 4 as tonight. Its a winner, winner, chicken dinner for me!

i think in terms of tonights play, rory was quiet. but he does so much for the team, his throws are not only so dangerous, but they provide a catalyst for the team and fans, and makes defenders nervous.
i'm really not sure to be honest. as much as i love delap, i'm not sure if i could drop lenny for him

Wow, another midfield dilemma, just a couple of games after panic about who we could play!
Personally, Etherington has to earn his place back. His speed and dribbling and of course crossing are his strong points and that can be extremely important as a second half sub. For that reason alone I'd leave him on the bench.
Team for Everton:
Sorensen
Wilko Shawcross Ab. Faye Higginbotham
Delap Whelan Am. Faye Lawrence
Sidibe Beattie
Bench: Simmo, Sonko, Kelly, Diao, Etherington, Fuller, Camara
Leave Fuller out again. Still a risk for me to play entire game and is a brilliant impact. Sidibe quiet again but this game might suit him a bit more being up against Yobo.

I think it would be major mistake to drop Lenny.
I don't think that Rory's throws offer us anything away from home.
For the away games I would play:
Lenny----Faye----Whelan-----Ethers
and for the home games I would play:
Lenny----Rory----Whelan----Ethers.

Unfortunately it's one of those "breaks" again which never seem to do SCFC too much good. I hope it doesn't un-freshen us. The Dubai-Tottenham experience is still fresh in my memory. I'd stick with what we did at Villa/Tonight to be honest. If you've been "unlucky" enough to earn a red card then that punishment should also mean that the place in the team is also earnt.

I know what you mean Spidey, but unfortunately we don't have the luxury of not playing our best players as we sit safe in the top half of the table. We simply have to play our best players regardless of their previous misdemeanors, we're in a relegation dog fight, and Etherington is certainly one of our best players.
