Sorry if mentioned before but I find this quote from Mr Pulis very strange. "Whether Glenn starts or not I don't know because Amdy Faye has been playing very well, especially at home."Does anyone else find it odd that he has completely bypassed mentioning Salif at all. Even if Sal is going to start (and we all know he is the best midfielder of his type in the league) then you need to keep him on his toes. If Diao knows his position is safe, what is there to motivate him? On Sunday, apart from the last fifteen minutes, he was truly dire. For me, Amdy Faye was far better yet it was him who was hauled off and now find's his position seemingly under threat. I'm all for Whelan to return to the side. He gives us that bit of attack minded central creativity and also isn't afraid to have a few efforts at goal (as we saw at Villa). What I do find hard is that Salif, who is far from our most important player, has his position in the side absolutely nailed on. It's going to be a big decision for the manager when Etherington returns to the picture. www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/pulis-speaks-up-for-nice-guy-megson-1636679.html

I'd have Whelan and Amdy in there tonight me thinks, Diao didn't have his best game on Sunday I agree. If anyone should be dropped then it should be Salif but we all know how much TP thinks of him so it will more than likely be between Amdy and Whelan for that second midfield spot.

Why not Whelan and Faye? Salif was garbage at Villa absolute garbage, I don't want him in a Stoke shirt again. Give me Cresswell over him any day.

i would prefer faye and whelan but we all know pullis reckons the sun shines out of salif's arse so he will start.
but please tp don't start with salif and amdy faye in midfield, you can not go with twop defensive midfielders for a home game against an average team that we must win!!!!

Maybe Diao was also present when Cresswell got the incriminating pictures of Pulis engaging in ...er...whatever he was engaging in?
Mind you, after chasing him for ssssssssssooooooooo long, for Pulis not to play him now, whenever he got the chance, would be a bit like Tweety Pie offering himself up to Sylvester the cat , already smeared in mayonnaise, only for Sylvester to say 'No, I'm not hungry'.

If Faye and Diao start in the middle, with Delap on the left and Mama and Beattie up front, I fear a very long evening is in store.

Salif is a good player, but he's another in Tony's list of "first choice". This could cost us our place in the Prem

I reckon he'll start with whelan and Diao ! I think Diao is a miles better holding midfield player than Amdy Faye, alright he didn't have his best of games at villa but i'd still rather have him than Amdy in that position.

Diao is shit, Amdy Faye has outshone him all season and 99.5% of people in Stoke-on-Trent can see that they play like clowns when put together and offer us nothing going forward> It should be Whelan whos the nailed on starter, with Faye next to him.

I thought Faye was absolutely toss on Sunday. Now if that was the fault of Diao I fail to see how. Diao and Faye as a unit were poor against Villa and the difference Whelan made when he came on was astounding........he competed, his touch was assured, he was energetic and creative. He has to start tonight.

Its as simple as this: -
• We need to beat Bolton • To do that we need to score more goals than them • Whelan in the team gives us more creativity and more chance of goals • Amdy is currently in better form than Sal • RESULT – Amdy and Glen should start tonight against Bolton
Can somebody please forward this to Tone?
Kind regards
WD

He could well be and I hope that we do line up with Amdy and Whelan, but that quote does seem very strange to me.

I’ve been looking forward to tonight ever since the final whistle on Sunday.
It’s a massive game and the nerves are starting to kick in. If we lose we stay in the bottom 3 and we will be on a downer and we have to mull over that for 10 days, if we win, morale will be boosted and confidence will be high – it will make the 10 day break much more bearable. It’s a must win for me, even a draw is not good enough and I hope TP’s team selection reflects that.
We need to go with an attack minded line up tonight which includes Whelan instead of Sal and Fuller (if fit).

I'd start Amdy over Diao (particularly at home) any day of the week, although, in cloud cuckoo, never going to happen fantasy land, I'd have one of Delap or Pugh in the middle with Whelan.

I'd play an attacking side featuring Fuller, Delap, Lawrence and Whelan to set us up nicely with a two goal cushion by the hour mark. Then we can bring on some more defensive players to see the game out.
Pulis will most likely try to play very tight, with a side involving Sidibe as a midfielder, Pugh, Faye, Diao and/or Cressie, to get to the hour mark at 0-0, then bring on our offensive players to try and nick one.
He may well be proved right, as well. Let's hope so, but I'd rather he plays samba football from the off and proves me right with a 4-0 tonking of a strong Bolton team.
We could really do with some luck in this one I think.

Pulis loves the Diao/Faye duo, but even so, after sunday I'm sure Whelan will start the game, if a player comes on and plays well then he should be rewarded with a place in the team the next game, it sends out a healthy message, you play well and you'll get picked, he's certainly more of a goal threat than either of those two.

Bolton are a good side, but they are pretty much safe and we need to win. Who's to say they won't put in a similar performance to their dreadful effort at Everton? Victories are what is required. Bolton aren't a bad side, Boro aren't, Newcastle aren't, Blackburn aren't...but we have to see them off. We are at home against mid-table opposition. Let's try to do them what they've done to a couple of other teams recently: hit them hard and hit them early, get a couple up, if possible. Above all, let's learn the lessons from the Pompey game.

I'm not saying the others, or indeed any game between now and the end of the season aren't, but let's not pretend tonight's going to be a piece of piss, because it isn't.
