Anyone else think it'd be nice to have something similar again? I went to see Stoke v Fiorentina at the Vic in 93 and thought it was cracking...players like Stefan Effenberg and Gabrielle Batistuta vs. players like Martin Carruthers and Dave Regis ;D

I also remember a few of the other home games, unfortunatly nobody was interested. A couple of the finals at Wembley attracted less than 25,000 people. Mind you one of those finals did involve port vale.

Dave,
There were infact 12 and a half thousand there on that day against Genoa.
Didn't Montella get one for the Italians?

I remeber big Vince keeping Batistuta in his pocket, and Stigger Foley playing effenberg out of the game!
Also Batistuta looking perplexed at the Boothen at the gippo chants and where's your caravan. Always made me smile when watching World Cups and Euro championships...

You know, i think it would be pretty good, likes of Stoke, Plymouth etc may never ever see UEFA or Championms League football, so some sort of European competition for lower 1st/2nd tier clubs could be a good thing.
I was at the Fiorentina game too and it was good fun, i'd love to see that happen again!!!

yes a Europe-wide second tier comp might be good just 1 team from each nation & then you wouldnt get knoked out by Notts County in the anglo-italian
every final @ wembley & the whole continent would sign up,imho

knowles - thought Montella bagged two (or three)?
I may be wrong, but I definitely thought he scored more than one.
