knowingeye, I think ID isn't posting anymore, probably viewing though, with itchy fingers Shocking that if that new law of careless driving hadn't been brought in he could of walked away with a fine

The problem with that stretch of the M6 is peoples driving not the road itself. I like many off here have traveled that section of road many times with no problem. I suspect that most have also seen the nutters weaving between lanes because they took the bend to fast or just shooting past at 100+ Its not the road its the drivers.
PS. I was refering to the petition.

Why is this stretch of motorway unlit? What governs whether a motorway has street lighting or not? Anyone who drives on motoways at night must agree that it is safer when the carriageway is illuminated.

if you cant do without lighting then why are you on the road?
it does make me think why its unlit sometimes but i wouldnt call it unsafe, blame drivers.

Common sense says if there was street lighting you would see more. Youre not just confined to what your headlights pick up!

common sense says slow down a little when it's dark. why the fuck do we need more lights on the bloody roads. Waste of electricity and money in my mind. UK people (although in the case highlighted above I realise he was a Portuguese lorry driver) just really don't know how to drive well.

The news article quotes his offence as "Causing death by careless driving". Last night on BBC Spotlight News in Devon it was stated that the lorry driver was using his lap top computer to check his route just before the collision occurred. FFS that is "dangerous driving" in anybodies book surely. Driving at 60mph in a HGV whilst operating a laptop at night wtf is the judge on.......

They failed to prove this was true hence the lesser charge.

So the guy was using a laptop? thats fair enough, as long as you don't blame the speeders or the people who have gone over the limit, everyone has done it

I find it very starnge that the roundabout on top junction 18 at Middlewich doesn't have any lights, it's a hard one to navigate in the dark. And I'm a brave one, I took my L plate 18 year old out for an hour in the dark for the first time last night

I drive 50,000 miles a year and I've being doing this for about 25 years.(1.25 million miles.)
I have a clean licence AND NEVER had an accident or points on my licence.
If everyone posting on here was half as safe and kept to the speedlimits then there would not be as many accidents. I have taken part in many advanced courses and high speed stuff, etc but the problem is that some people think that they are actually better at driving than they actually are. I find that younger people and older people to be the biggest menaces on the road...one is too fast and the other too slow. I also have a full motor bike licence and if everyone had to ride a motor bike first , then you would learn some valuable road safety lessons the hard way....
I regularly drive off road vehicles, vans and extremely powerful cars but the principle is still the same....KNOW YOUR LIMITS.
