Ive watched this fellow a few times now and he oozes averageness.
Thank god we did not pay stupid money for him.
There is so much better out there.Thank god we waited for Etherington.

I second that If he was worh 5-8 million surely a club like everton or spurs would have bought him, but they was no rumour of an offer going in He would have been just like Tongue.

I did say at the time it looked like we were getting him that I was unsure. I just assumed I had missed something everyone else saw in him. Like you I have watched him a few times since and am glad we never splashed the cash on him.

Since we were first associated with him i could not understand why. I've seen him play about 4-5 times and in every game he's looked VERY average.

Lucky escape! Didn't think he was worth anything near his price tag!

The sort of player somebody like Middlesbrough would have wasted silly money on a few years ago. He will probably play in the Prem next season, if Cardiff blow their chances this year (think they have a good chance, they're quite hard to beat in the Championship) he will probably want a move in the summer after all the hype this year.
Just hope if it's us we don't spend any more than £3m on an unproven player. Etherington was great value.

So just what does that miracle worker of a player spotter Pulis see in him that led him to wasting our chance of getting any other central midfielder this Jan?

TP often gets his man eventually so dont be surprised...I agree he doesn't look that good

I agree Kev, I haven't seen anything to suggest he is worth anywhere near the kind of money that was being banded about. There's no doubt he has a bit of ability and a decent shot on him but he is so one paced it's untrue and pace and power and an eye for a pass is something we need in midfield. I'm certain that for the money Cardiff wanted you could find a better player than him.

I think if we actually seriously took a look in europe there would be better midfield players available for Ledleys price tag...why we haven't bought a single player from one of the major european leagues still baffles me. But I expect him to go in the summer....cardiff aint going to get promoted

to be honest i think he will be useful in a few years but that's why i'm glad he didn't come. allegedly cardiff accepted our bid ages ago but i always wondered whether he was just using us as a shop window/springboard and would have buggered off within a few months of getting here to a bigger club to "bring him on" so paying £6-8 mill would have been a massive waste of money

While I agree that he was MASSIVELY overpriced.
He is not average. I know a couple of cardiff fans and welsh national fans. All of which love him and suggest that his positioning and on the ball ability is fantastic.
I have seen him at stoke a few times and I have seen him play for wales. And while he has never scored a 40 yard volley or anything else he controls the game. He is a player very much in the Bullard mould.

A case of agents gilding the lily, I think. I have not read any report on him anywhere, that makes him out to be anything more than a CCC player. They don#t exactly rave about himon the Cardiff board. If he was as good as his asking price suggests, he would have been snapped up by one of the divisions big spenders.

Agreed, whenever I have spoken to Cardiff fans on their Rivals board they haven't been that bothered and all said that we'd be mad to pay £6M and that their board should have snapped our hands off in the summer.

think we are all in agreement then that we should look else where for an attacking midfielder. He looked so out of his depth last night we'd be taking a massive gamble on this fella and £5-6mill is a ridiculous price-tag when you looked at him compared to Arsenal players snapped up for pittence.
To the continent Tony, to the continent!

Ye he hasnt exactly been setting the Champ alight over the last few seasons so to spend £6M on him would have been ridiculous but as was said above TP wont let this drop and WHEN we stave off relegation this season i would expect us to sign him in the summer if Cardiff dont gain promotion, which they wont cause there shite
