Fulham survived last season with 36 points (albeit on goal difference) but this season it's certainly looking like more that that will be needed.
how many you recon we need for safety?

Not a hope in hell of needing 40 points to stay up this season.
ill be surprised if 37 doesnt do the job.
Just try running through Boros,Newcastles,Hulls and Blackburns remaining fixture lists and see how many points you get them attaining.
Newcastle particularyly are hard.
With Stokes fixtures the outcome is in our own hands.
Win enough games at home against teams around us and we will stay up ,if we fail we deserved it.

Kev I think you're spot on. I think the fact that its close will mean less points needed (everyone taking points off everyone else) I think 40 will piss it! F me I think a lot don't I. My brain hurts.

I have been saying on here since December that around 38 points would be enough and I still stand by that.
A lot of teams in the bottom half have to play the big four more than once and everyone has to play each other

Theres no way clubs will be needing 40 points to ensure they stay up. With the amount of teams down with us, winning the majority of our remaining home games will preserve your PL status.

People are wrong in saying that because it's tight more points that usual will be needed. I think in fact it will be around 36/37.
The 40 point ''rule'' tends to only apply when one or more team is completely cut off from the rest. With five or six genuine relegation candidates this year, there's more teams sharing the points, so fewe in total should be needed.

Yes, I think people who are saying 40 points minimum have their sums wrong somewhere...

I've been thinking 38 for a while and still reckon that's about right.

I thought it might be 40 but looking at the predictor thingy...there would have to be some stunning results by some team to reach 40 so i think 38.... 3pts at the weekend leaves us with 11...doesn't sound many does it?

On season form (ie. Based on everyone's points per game), 36 will be enough, but TBH I just can't see that. I have revised my pre-Crimbo prediction of 41 - 42 points down to about 39 though. The real problem for me is that it's likely to stay close all the way to the wire, with potentially five or six teams still in the mix on the last day. With us away at The Arse, that worries me.
