...in every game they play, apart from when Stoke play them.
Most normal football fans hate "the Big 4" for reasons that are too obvious and numerous to bother going into. Therefore it's a breath of fresh air that a team comprising of mainly English players, with an articulate, intelligent and likeable manager can get themselves up there challenging for a champions league spot without needing to be bankrolled by some foreign millionaire nutcase(s).
I'd love it of Villa could stay in the top 4 this year (preferably at the expense of Chelsea) and then challenge for the league in a couple of years time. They are probably, at present, only three or four players short of having a side good enough to do ,and a bit of champions league cash could give O'Neill the funds to add the necessary quality.
So, other than when we roll up and dick them at Villa Park, I'd like to say...
GOOOOARRNNN THE VILLA.

Likeable fans too, they took the defeat at the Brit on the chin and didn't give the usual shit excuses or 'you'll still go down' bollocks.

Got to agree with most of that. They weren't very good today though.
Would be great for English football if they finish in the top 3.
MON is a great manager and such a laugh in most of his interviews. I will never forget him having a rant during the World Cup about Zlatan Ibrahimoviæ, it was so funny

They have a very likeable owner too who has experience of running sports teams. Randy Lerner is one of the major reasons that Villa are doing as well as they are doing (much as Coates is doing the same for us).
Lerner has always provided funds should MON require them, but in the first few years of his spell he was reluctant to buy many. But this summer they made some very good signings (Friedel to replace Carson, Luke Young) and some signings to add depth to a previously shallow squad (Sidwell, Shorey, Cuellar).
It wouldn't surprise me to see them seriously competing for the title within the next few years.

Yeah, it was a shame they lost today, but in the big picture the FA cup won't do them as much good in the long term as a top-4 finish will.
Plus, they lost to Everton, who I also have a slight, very, very slight soft spot for due to following them as a 7 year old gloryhunter back when they used to win stuff. And I like their badge, and remember being overjoyed when I opened a pack of panini stickers in the playground and the Everton badge "foily" was sat there, looking up at me. I don't think I'd have been any happier had I opened up that packet and found a picture of Samantha Fox's naked boobs in there. (this of course being 1985...I'm not sure I'd really like to see them now)
I even had an Everton colouring-set with pictures of Kevin Ratcliffe and Kevin Sheedy in it, that I coloured in then stuck to my bedroom walls (with blu-tak, before anybody makes any dirty jizz jokes).
In fact, thinking about it, Everton haven't really done naybody any harm have they? They don't spend a massive amount of money, they have a few English players in the side, and didn't David Moyes shake hands with the Stoke fans after he'd been red-carded and sent to the stands earlier this season?
Right, that's settled then, Villa for the league and Everton for the cup!
GOOOOARN THE TOFFEES!!! ;D

I'd actually forgotten that Randy Lerner owned them, but even though he's from other shores, he has a fucking ace name...and that makes me like Villa even more. Plus I went to a Villa game once, when my Dad decided that he'd take me to a top-flight game after I went to every one of Stoke's home games in the 89/90 Mills/Ball relegation debacle and wanted to take an overdose as a result. Crikey, I'm talking myself into a season ticket for 09/10 here... ;D VILLA! VILLA! VILLA!

Another thing in Villa's favour is their sponsorship of a hospice and promotion thereof on their shirts.

Unfortunately, the problem that the Villa are going to have is when they don't quite make the 'big' breakthrough their best players - Ashley Young, Agbonlahor, Gareth Barry (Harewood ;D ) are going to get poached by some club with megabucks like Man City.

I went to watch Villa in the FA cup yesterday with a villa fan mate. They were poor and he was willing to admit it - a breath of fresh air when compared to most top 4 fans. I am biased though, as Stoke are his second team from his time at Staffs uni.
We stuck around for the ManU v Derby game. Some of the utd fans in the pub were giving it the 'easy, easy, easy' chant after they went 2 up (against Derby - I had to remind them of that). I don't mind Utd myself, but a large portion of their 'fans' are complete tools who think it's their right to win any game they're playing in. I watched us against them on boxing day with some ManU fans and they were incapable of admitting that the game had been in the balance for 90 mins and that we deserved a point - infuriating.

Not neccesarily. Villa seem to have the funds to keep hold of them and those players seem quite loyal. Look at the Barry saga in the summer when they kept him when Liverpool wanted him.

Wouldn't it be great if a team like Villa or Everton actually got to dethrone the top four. If they can start influencing the refs like the top four do then they have a good chance of doing so. That influence over referees is worth at least 8/10 points a season to them.
I like The Villa and I like Everton. Mainly because I like their managers.
