Can anyone suggest any sites or links or better still anyone who went to any of the games recall there memories on this thread.Looking for info on the full run, players used and maybe where are they now.Managed to do some work on the Semi and Final against Arsenal and Everton. Cheers scouse, Any idea what happened to some of the squad members? Noticed you mentioned Jones as a goalscorer but is that Roger Johns?.Only working from my own memory at the moment and i recall a player called Roger Johns. Also for some reason i think Jon Chapman was related to Lee,yet again could be wrong. Did you go any of the games?

Thanks again Scouse, all help gratefully recieved.Actually working on getting comminication through to Tony Lacey for assistance. When i lived at home with my parents we used to live nextdoor to his mother-in-law.Would see him quite abit in the mid-eighties.When he took over first team duties though he never visited her, probably had other things on his mind. Last i heard he was working with Wolves's academy.

Stenny
Interesting contrast between the number of victorious Stoke players who "made it" (not many) and the number of defeated Arsenal players who went on to great things (quite a few).
Two interesting Stoke facts (from memory)
1. Chris Hemming made it as a pro and was the first pro footballer (I think) to play with a heart pacemaker. An elegant player but not very aggressive. Pretty sure he played some Div 1 games for Stoke (ie. what is now the Prem)
2. Sutton (who played upfront with Jon Chapman) was a very talented player - who turned down Mick Mills' offer of professional terms because he wanted to stay working at the tax office in Leek! Think he played for Leek Town for years, could have played to a higher standard.
Before some stato jumps on me for getting my facts wrong, both the above are purely from recollection - but I think both points are fundamentally right.
Hope your lad enjoys his project!

'Pen pics' from the home final prog - will do them in several posts to break up the typing - apologies in advance for any typos - positions in brackets provided from the semi final prog - obviously some stand out, but hopefully with the names a few local Stokies might be able to fill in a bit of background info

Match report of the final 2nd leg ( from the wolves prog )
Dissapointing Cup final Result
Our finishing so deadly on the path to our first ever FA Youth cup final , deserted us as Everton won the trophy in a high quality second leg at the Victoria ground.
We were delighted that the Potteries turned out in force and stayed to salute the runners-up as tearfully received their runners-up tankards. We had the changes but the goalkeeping of Stephen Hall was superb.
We hit some great shots, but everything seemed to hit their keeper. At least the fans saw a Stoke team to be proud of and I'm confident we shall have a good side again next season.
We have to follow Everton's example and comeback to win the trophy at the second attempt
Jonathan Chapman must still be wondering how his close range shot four minutes after the break came back off the bar during our all-out attacking spell when Everton were relieved to survive.
Then Roger Johns who had struck two oppertunist goals in the semi against arsenal hit two easier chances wide.
Everton's disciplined defence held out defiently before taking the lead with a shot out the blue after65 minutes , Darren Huges striking a 30 yard drive that dipped over Dawson into the roof of the net.
Everton's England U18 keeper Hall touched over a shot by Callaghan in superb style 10 minutes from time
Newcomer Rob Wakenshaw cooly slotted a shot past Dawson.
Winger Neil Mountford was impressive but just unable to finish.Stoke moved up a gear after the break to increase the pressure.
Afine header by Chapman hit Hall who remained in unbeatable form to frustrate Stoke.David Sutton's quick pass on the turn was neutralised by some tight marking with two bookings resulting from challenges on the lightly built striker.
Callaghan positioned himself well to head clear after rimmer had round Dawson , before Hughes struck the first blow to stoke's hopes and Everton having been under pressure gained in confidence
Grahame Shaw took over from Johns 12 minutes from time with Stoke losing their early domination.
Hall had the last word as he hurled himself to keep out a drive from skipper Steve Parkin whose determined example will make him a name in the not too far future along with several of his team mates.
Stoke: Dawson , Williams , Hemming , Callaghan , Howells , Parkin , Mountford, O'Neil , Chapman , Sutton , Johns , Sub Shaw
Dawson played in contact lenses , losing one in the final at everton
Will type up a report for the game at Everton...and any others I find tomorrow

Jon Chapman is now married with two kids and living in Jersey. He still turns out for Jersey Wanderers (or did a couple of years ago), and I played with him and against him during my time there. He was still good with his head and notched a fair few a season.

[bYouth Cup Final 1st] Leg [/b]
Everton 2 Stoke City 2
After scares and fitness tests on Mountford , Shaw , O'Neil and a little show of tiredness by Callaghan in the morning training ( which was quickly put right ) and the loss of one contact lens by Dawson our goalkeeper , we finally took the road to Everton and the first leg of the final.
Everton got off to a fine start when Rimmer's cross from a half cleared corner found the dangerous Wakenshaw , who duly scored. It was wakenshaw again the 18th minute who burst through to fire a shot , but was denied by Dawson.Rimer, however following up quickly drove the lose ball home.
To their credit stoke after this disastrous start clawed their way back into the the game with sutton looking dangerous and prompted by O'Neil and Parkin in midfield.
The second half saw the visitors emerging as the stronger side.Hemming going close with two fine efforts.
Their increasing pressure finally told with Howells scoring with a superb header from Mountford's free-kick.
Shortly after stoke were on level terms when a Wiliam's cross was headed down by Chapman and Sutton squeezed his shot past the diving Hall.
The final 15 minutes saw the game see-saw with continual goalmouth incidents to bring the match to a tremedous climax , and set the stage for another thrilling contest on 8th May at the Victoria Ground.
The young lads had been a credit to Stoke City and everyone connected with the club .They had played some fine attacking football , showing pace and skill , but had also shown passion, commitment and strength of character to come back were lesser teams would have folded.
This spirit was depicted by Ken O'Neil who refused to come off at half time and again 20 minutes from the end when he was struggling to run and the sub was ready to go on! This is what winners are made of!
I and the lads would like to thank the fantastic support we received at Everton - it meant a lot to us !
We hope to see all you City fans at the Final to get behind the lads. They are a tremendous little side , whose team spirit , singlemindedness is second to none and they will make you 'Proud to be a Potter'
Tony Lacey
Admission to the final at stoke cost £2 seats £1 standing
Attendance Everton 9,398 Stoke 13,875

Chelsea ( Away )
The high came with our tremendous result in the quarter finals game at Chelsea.Against a very strong home side which had not lost a game since September , we won 2-1.The result was gained through grit and determination , organisation and good defending. We got off to a fine start with a penalty after 10 minutes which Callaghan blasted over the bar!.
Chelsea pressured us very hard , but found our defence with the back four magnificent , hard to pierce.
Just before half-time a free kick was gained on the edge of the box and Parkin scored.
After the interval Chelsea again pressed , but our quick breaks continually threatened and we had opportunities to increase the lead.
The home side were unfortunate with one effort which hit the bar , but again with 5 minutes remaining Parkin broke to score a magnificent goal. However, straight from the kick-off Chelsea made it 2-1 and Stoke were left to defend heroically as the minutes ticked by to give them a memorable victory.
It had not been a classic , but a very hard physical contest , which will have aged them and myself a few years and done their confidence a lot of good

Arsenal ( away semi 2nd leg ) by Tony lacey in the Liverpool home programme
Stoke took a slender one goal lead to Highbury for the 2nd leg of the Youth Cup semi final , having won 3-2 at home in an action packed game.
As expected Arsenal started at a tremendous pace, and Dawson was called upon to make a fine save in the first minute. However with Howells and Callaghan looking confident in the middle of the defence there was a solid look about the visitors.
Stoke continually threatened on the break , and Hemming went very close with one effort.Gradually the strength and competitveness of Parkin and O'Neil in midfield gave stoke the edge , and after 30 minutes Parkin was brought down just outside the box.The resultant free kick saw the Stoke skipper score with a fine shot into the top corner to give the visitors the lead.
Following the interval , Stoke made it 2-0 with Hemming scoring from a corne.Arsenal found dawson in unbeatable form saving brilliantly when called upon.He was backed by a well organised defence.
Stoke were prepared to throw men foreward at every opportunity with Sutton , Chapman Mountford and Johns always threatening. It was no surprise when Stoke looking the stronger side now increased their lead when Chapman chipped the keeper from outside the box to give stoke an emphatic 3-0 win , a 6-2 aggregate victory , and a piece in the club's history , being the first side ever to reach the FA Youth Cup Final.
The atmoshere in the dressing room was something that will always be remembered and treasured.the Arsenal Vice Chairman kindly sent two bottles of champagne to the dressing room which were duly drained by one and all connected with the club.
The trip back also became a memory , stopping for fish and chips ( as always ) , but this time washed down with pop and further champagne. In such a mood and a great bunch of lads a sing -song was inevitable , with every player and member of staff showing their showbiz potential on the mike! From the serious 'soul singer ' of Roger Johns , the international flavour of Neil Howells singing Bladen races ( the worst version I've ever witnessed ) a couple of Irish comediens , Ken and Aaron giving us some unknown 'top of the pops' and probably the longest 'joke teller ' in the guiness book of records - Billy Parkin.
Standards were lifted to new and dizzy heights by myself and staff , the climax being top of the bill,Director Geoff Manning with his 'unforgettable ' version of an 'Irish Ditty' which when released will easily be found in any junk shop.
It was a great and memorable night and will live with us allThanks to all the supporters who travelled to watch and to those at the home game who got behind us after the interval when we needed most . We were 2-1 down but not out
We hope to complete the job against Everton in the final. If hard work through the season counts for anything we wont dissapoint .I hope you will get behind us again and give the lads another lasting memory and bring the FA Youth Cup to the stoke City for the first time in the club's history .
The dates to remember are 26th April away at Everton and home on 8th May KO 7.30 pm
Have to have a rest now..and give others a rest too !!
enjoyed digging all this out TBH and will via google etc place a little of the clubs history and the young teams efforts on the internet for the wider audiance , so no bad thing - any excuse to spread the name of stoke City
